In a significant move in the cryptocurrency market, a major Ethereum holder has liquidated their entire position, according to blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain. The whale sold a total of 52,001 Ether at an average price of $2,632, realizing a profit of approximately $24.48 million.
Strategic Sales Executed Over Multiple Trades
The final transaction involved the sale of 9,996 Ether from the wallet address 0x8c58, generating around $25 million. This marked the completion of a methodical disposal of Ethereum holdings, which the investor had earlier reduced incrementally. According to Lookonchain, the investor acquired the position at a total cost of $112.4 million, equating to an average buy price of $2,162 per Ether, thus earning a substantial return.
Lookonchain data highlights the complete liquidation of a 52,001 ETH position, culminating in a profit of $24.48 million.
September’s Massive Sell-Off and Market Context
A significant portion of this sell-off took place on September 24, when the investor offloaded 42,005 Ether, valued at approximately $111.89 million. Notably, these sales occurred during a period of vulnerability in the crypto markets, underscoring strategic timing. Following this, 9,996 Ether remained in the wallet, which has now been sold, effectively closing a long-held position.
Alongside this, contrasting movements within the market have been observed. While some entities are opting to liquidate Ethereum, others are increasing their stakes. On October 12, Lookonchain identified another major investor pivot from Bitcoin to Ethereum, involving the sale of 410.14 BTC for about $34.16 million, followed by a purchase of 14,341 ETH at a cost of $36.14 million across decentralized exchanges.
This investor further sold an additional 229 BTC, conducting transactions worth $19.1 million, to acquire 7,469.8 Ether. This showcases a divergence in strategies, where some investors are capitalizing on profits, while others are amassing Ethereum.
Ethereum Remains Steady Above $2,500
According to CoinGecko, Ethereum is currently trading at approximately $2,507.47, having appreciated by 0.7% in the last 24 hours. These wallet activities reveal bifurcated trends: while some cash in on gains, others are transitioning from Bitcoin holdings to accumulate more Ethereum.
Large wallet movements during the same timeframe highlight dual trends: one group is realizing profits, while others continue to sell Bitcoin and gather Ethereum.
