XRP holders are watching a price target materialize in real time. Large sell walls placed by Coinbase whales in the upper $20s to $32 range have caught crypto commentator Jared Johnston’s attention. He sees a deliberate mechanism at work, one designed to shake XRP out of retail hands before a much larger move.
What Johnston Is Seeing
Johnston points to whale activity on Coinbase as his starting concern. Major players placed sell orders worth tens and hundreds of millions of dollars, concentrated in the $28 to $32 range. Separately, two well-known crypto figures known as Riddlers posted price targets of $33. Johnston calls the overlap between those two figures “pretty conspicuous.”
He opined that these sell walls are speed bumps. Institutional players pump XRP into the low $30s, retail holders see a number far beyond their expectations, and they sell. Johnston argues that this is the exact outcome these mechanisms are designed to produce. “They want to bait XRP holders with a rapid pump up into the low $30 range.”
The $10,000 Argument
Johnston anchors his case in comments made years ago by XRP co-founders David Schwartz and Arthur Brito. Before Ripple’s early White House meetings, the two reportedly said XRP needed to reach $10,000 to function efficiently at scale.
Johnston treats this as context for why selling at $32 would be a costly mistake. “If they can get it from you for $32 or $33, that’s much better than $10,000.” He stops short of telling people what to do with their money. His message is that holders who sell at $32 out of habit or disbelief in higher targets may be giving up their position permanently.
XRP Army Responds
The post drew responses from across the XRP community. One commenter said he plans to lend his XRP and live off the interest rather than sell at all. Another said long-term patience is the right approach, and advised market participants to hold and not sell.
A commenter questioned whether exchanges would let long positions from $1 get wiped out, to which Johnston replied that market makers manipulate short and long positions freely.
One community member pushed back on the idea that XRP could reach $10,000. Johnston pushed back, noting that the price can work at scale. He explained that the current market cap makes that price impossible today but not in the future.
