@MetaMask has officially launched the MetaMask Agent Wallet, a purpose-built financial infrastructure product that gives autonomous AI agents their own self-custodial wallets to trade and interact with decentralized finance protocols, without users giving up control of their funds.

A Wallet Built for Machines, Controlled by Humans

The product, developed by Consensys and launched in early access on June 8, 2026, addresses a long-standing tension in agentic crypto trading: how to give an AI agent enough freedom to be useful while preventing it from acting outside the owner's intentions. The Agent Wallet is fully self-custodial, letting AI agents trade autonomously without forcing users to give up control. Users set spending limits, protocol allowlists, and a risk profile before the agent begins transacting. Guard Mode restricts activity to allowlisted protocols with daily spend limits and two-factor authentication on anything outside policy, while Beast Mode allows broader protocol access, though malicious transactions are still blocked and surfaced for 2FA approval.

The wallet uses Cubist's trusted execution environment technology to keep private keys inside a hardware-isolated enclave during signing, preventing MetaMask and Consensys from accessing users' key material. Transactions are routed through the company's existing security infrastructure, including transaction simulation, scam and malicious-contract detection, Blockaid-powered threat scanning, Clear Signing, and Servo MEV protection. MetaMask also offers transaction protection coverage of up to $10,000 per month for eligible activity.

Multi-Chain Reach and Broad Integrations

The Agent Wallet supports a wide range of networks, including @Ethereum, @Optimism, @BNBCHAIN, @0xPolygon, @Monad, @HyperliquidX, @SeiNetwork, @Megaeth, @Base, @Arbitrum, @Avax, and @LineaBuild. It was developed in collaboration with @HyperliquidX, @Polymarket, and @Aave, with @Blockaid_ providing real-time security and @Cubistdev handling key management. Agents can access swaps, perpetual futures, prediction markets, liquidity positions, and more across EVM chains and Hyperliquid while staying inside user-defined rules.

The wallet is built to be framework-agnostic, supporting integration with OpenAI Codex, Anthropic's Claude Code, Cursor, OpenClaw, and Nous Research's Hermes Agent, among others. The product launched in self-custodial form on June 8, 2026, with roughly 200 users in an Early Access Program and a broader rollout planned for summer 2026.

The launch comes as the broader AI agent economy continues to expand. The agent economy is projected to grow from $5.4 billion to $236 billion by 2034. MetaMask's launch follows other crypto companies rolling out infrastructure for AI agents, including Coinbase, which introduced its own Agentic Wallets in February 2026.
