Grayscale (@Grayscale) is letting eligible investors subscribe to 10 digital asset products using crypto they already hold, rather than selling tokens first. The change covers $BTC, $ETH, $SOL, $XRP and $DOGE, alongside $LINK, $AVAX, $SUI, $HYPE and $ZEC.

Grayscale announced on October 21, 2026 that it is providing eligible investors with the ability to participate in-kind to select Grayscale products.Investors can exchange existing crypto holdings for fund shares without first converting their tokens into cash.

How in-kind investing works

Under the arrangement, investors contribute the digital asset itself and receive product shares in return. With in-kind creation, an authorized participant can hand the fund the underlying crypto and receive shares, so the fund does not have to buy or sell the asset on the open market each time shares are created.

Grayscale says the structure can ease the practical burden of holding crypto. By contributing eligible tokens, investors can reduce the operational burden of self-custody and safekeeping while potentially lowering the execution costs of transacting on crypto marketplaces.Shares may also be eligible for use as margin or collateral, and can be paired with listed options to hedge exposure or support estate planning.

Steve Vanourny, Head of Index at Grayscale, linked the move to security concerns. He pointed to growing cybersecurity threats, including self-custody and DeFi exploits, saying institutional custody is increasingly valuable.

Minimums and eligibility still apply

The service is not open to everyone. Investors must meet eligibility requirements and arrange primary-market subscriptions through an authorized participant or an intermediary connected to one.

Entry levels are also high. The Solana Staking ETF has the lowest minimum at approximately $80,300, while the Bitcoin Mini Trust requires $364,800. Dogecoin requires approximately $95,550, compared with $257,000 for XRP and $322,600 for Zcash. The amounts are approximate, based on market prices on October 20, and can move as the underlying assets' prices change.

Analysts will be watching whether the feature draws real money. The key going forward is whether the in-kind method leads to actual inflows, according to DigitalToday. The wider product range means demand could spread beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum to assets such as Solana, XRP and Zcash.
