Harold (HAROLD), a memecoin on Solana ($SOL) (@solana), is attracting fresh trading interest. The token draws on one of the internet's most recognisable faces, the "Hide the Pain Harold" meme.
HAROLD is up around 20% over the past day and roughly 30% over the week. Its market value stands at approximately $17.4 million. Its appeal rests on humour, relatability and the lasting popularity of the original meme.
The meme behind the token
Hide the Pain Harold is an internet meme built on stock photos of András István Arató, a retired Hungarian electrical engineer. In 2011, he became the subject of the meme because of his facial expression and seemingly fake smile.
The meme spawned image macros and fictional backstories, and Arató revealed his identity in 2016, according to meme(.)com.
Arató's profile has also reached the crypto world. He attended the Token 2049 event in Singapore in 2024 as a guest of the Web3 studio Memeland and the NFT community Arc, Malay Mail reported.
The token's own description leans on the same theme. CoinMarketCap's listing describes HaroldCoin as a memecoin inspired by Harold "Hide the Pain," built around embracing the humour in awkward and challenging moments.
What the data shows
Meme tokens built on recognisable internet characters tend to trade on attention rather than fundamentals, and moves of this size can reverse quickly. HAROLD has been through large swings before. CryptoRank data lists an all-time high of $0.02987 reached on 12 January 2025.
Price, liquidity and volume figures differ between data providers and change throughout the day, so readers should check live data on several trackers before drawing conclusions.
