Decentralized exchange activity on the Hedera network has surged sharply over the past month. According to @MSBIntel, DEX volumes on the @Hedera blockchain climbed 151% in the 30-day period leading up to October 9, pushing total monthly volume to around $110 million.
On-Chain Activity Accelerates
The jump in DEX volume fits a broader pattern of rising network activity on Hedera. Data from DefiLlama shows Hedera's 30-day DEX volume sitting near the $95 million mark, with SaucerSwap accounting for the vast majority of flow across the network's decentralized exchanges. Earlier in October, Hedera had already seen a noticeable pickup in on-chain activity, with weekly DEX volume rising 55% to roughly $49.32 million before the more recent acceleration that took the 30-day figure higher still.
More trading activity means users are interacting with Hedera-based liquidity pools, swapping assets, and moving capital through decentralized applications, which analysts tend to view as a stronger signal of genuine network usage than speculative price action alone.
ETF Demand Has Not Followed On-Chain Growth
Despite the improvement in DEX metrics, the surge has not translated into a corresponding uptick in demand for regulated spot $HBAR exposure. The Canary Hedera ETF, trading on Nasdaq under the ticker HBR, was the first spot fund offering direct exposure to HBAR, and it remains the primary vehicle for investors seeking regulated access to the token. However, Grayscale withdrew its own spot Hedera ETF registration in August 2026, part of a broader retreat from three altcoin ETF filings, citing limited commercial prospects compared with Bitcoin and Ethereum products.
ETF inflows into HBAR products have also turned close to flat in August, leaving a clear gap between the network's on-chain momentum and the institutional appetite measured through listed products. Whether the latest DEX volume figures are enough to revive that interest remains to be seen.
For now, Hedera presents a split picture: a network generating meaningful and growing decentralized trading activity, while the broader investment community continues to assess whether that on-chain growth will ultimately support a sustained re-rating of the token.
