Helium(HNT) nearly doubled Saturday after Celina, Texas, enabled Helium carrier offload on city-owned Wi-Fi, extending mobile coverage without adding cell towers.

Helium announced the deployment on Aug. 28, saying Celina had enabled carrier offload at the Celina Public Library, Ralph O’Dell Senior Center and participating downtown businesses. The city did not need to build new wireless infrastructure because those locations already had Wi-Fi.
Supported carrier subscribers can connect automatically through Passpoint authentication, avoiding an app, password or manual network selection. Helium said the enabled sites are handling about 100 GB of traffic each day, with more Celina locations expected to come online this fall.
Amy Alexander, Celina’s information technology director, said the system lets the city turn Wi-Fi it already owns into coverage residents can use automatically “without spending a dollar on new towers.” AT&Tbegan using Helium’s Wi-Fi network for subscriber offload in Apr. 2025, helping establish the carrier integration behind automatic connections.

The deployment announcement was followed by a sharp move in HNT, with BeInCryptoreporting the token had gained nearly 100% by Saturday and added about $37 million in market value. Roughly $44 million changed hands over one day, more than half of the reported $79 million market capitalization.
The scale of Celina’s deployment remains limited, but the reaction points to investor interest in Helium’s ability to reuse existing Wi-Fi for mobile coverage in fast-growing areas.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates show Celina added 12,710 residents between July 2024 and July 2025, lifting its population 24.6% to 64,427.
At the time of BeInCrypto’s report, HNT traded near $0.42 and had gained 97.4% over 30 days. The token was still down 85.6% over 12 months and remained far below its 2021 record of $54.88, leaving the latest surge as a sharp rebound within a much longer decline.
