The crypto community observes another pattern as the crypto market witnesses another shocking black swan event. In detail, $6 billion was attacked on the reputed Binance crypto exchange. In swift response, Binance managed to freeze about $3 billion with assistance from Tether and Circle. So how did Binance get hacked and why is there always a major black swan event before the midterms?
How Did Binance Get Hacked?
In the last 24 hours, Binance was hacked for $6.3 billion, marking the biggest crypto theft on record. With the assistance of Tether and Circle, Binance was able to freeze around $3 billion in assets. Presently, withdrawals are suspended on the platform to ensure that user assets are safe. Binance officials, including CZ have made public statements promising to make up for the losses using their SAFU policy and company assets.

As we can see from the post above, the cause of the attack was due to one hacked employee laptop, costing an estimated $6.3 billion on Binance. Binance says attackers likely got in through a compromised DevOps engineer's laptop and pushed through unauthorized withdrawals, and it has frozen deposits and withdrawals while it investigates and promises to cover every customer's loss.
So far, about $3 billion has been frozen, most of it in stablecoins after Tether and Circle locked the tokens within hours, but roughly $2.4 billion in Bitcoin and Ether is still in the attacker's wallets, and those have no company that can hit pause. Bitcoin dropped more than 4% to under $78,000. The previous record, the Bybit hack in 2025, was $1.5 billion.
The post then goes on to state that the lesson is uncomfortable for an industry that sells itself as unhackable: the money that could be stopped was the money controlled by a company, and the money that got away was the part nobody controls. Getting it back now depends on the thieves trying to cash out through an exchange that cooperates, which can take months or years.
Why Is There Always a Major Black Swan Event Before the Midterms?

Meanwhile, others notice that a major Black Swan event has always occurred just before the Midterm elections, going back to FTX, the Bybit hack, and Mt. Gox. Could this be a distraction to sway the masses and turn them bearish before bullish surges arrive? Only time will tell. The post above suggests another drop will likely follow if historical data will allow history to repeat itself.
Lastly, with CZ stating that funds are safe and that the hit hurts, but Binance will continue to protect user assets, hopes are high for the platform to recover and resume all operations as usual. The post above also shares prices to watch, BTC price needs to hold $77,700 and a rise to above $80,000 would be a bullish sign.
