Interactive Brokers now lets eligible clients stake Ethereum(ETH) through infrastructure firm Zerohash, making Ether the only one of its 20 tradable cryptocurrencies open to staking.
Key Points:
- Eligible Interactive Brokers LLC clients can stake Ether through a new dashboard in the broker's Client Portal.
- Rewards arrive as additional staked ETH and can compound while the position stays staked.
- CEO Milan Galik compared staking to the firm's existing Stock Yield Enhancement Program for shares.
Ethereum Staking Mechanics
The Greenwich, Connecticut-based broker announced the service Tuesday, saying eligible clients of its Interactive Brokers LLC unit can stake Ether through a new Staking Dashboard in the Client Portal. Clients can submit stake and unstake requests there and track pending activity. Zerohash, which builds crypto, stablecoin and tokenization infrastructure for brokerages, banks and fintech platforms, provides the underlying staking service.
Rewards, when earned, arrive as additional staked ETH rather than cash, so they can compound for as long as the position stays staked. Staking covers only Ether for now.
Clients reportedly keep at least 70% of the rewards, with no minimum stake.

Milan Galik's Reasoning
Milan Galik, the broker's chief executive, framed staking as a crypto version of an income tool the firm already offers on stocks. "Similar to how our Stock Yield Enhancement Program allows clients to earn additional income on shares they own, staking gives clients an opportunity to earn rewards on the cryptocurrency they own," he said. "We want clients to earn more from the assets they hold," he added.
The launch puts staking in the same account where clients already trade stocks, options, futures and bonds, and where they can fund accounts with stablecoins and move crypto to outside wallets. Rewards are not guaranteed, though, and stakers still carry Ether's price risk.
IBKR Crypto Expansion
At least one Wall Street rival is eyeing the same business. Morgan Stanley has reportedly sought a national trust bank charter that would let it hold digital assets for clients and offer them staking and trading. Interactive Brokers, meanwhile, is due to report third-quarter results on Oct. 15, two days after the staking rollout.
The broker first offered crypto trading in 2021 through Paxos, starting with Bitcoin(BTC), Ether, Litecoin(LTC) and Bitcoin Cash(BCH), and widened its lineup in early 2025. In January, it added round-the-clock account funding with USDC(USDC), and in March it opened crypto trading to eligible retail investors in the European Economic Area.
