Internet Computer (@dfinity) founder Dominic Williams (@dominic_w) says a growing number of enterprises are waiting for access to ICP cloud engines, signalling that institutional appetite for decentralized cloud infrastructure is starting to move beyond early adopters.
To accelerate that momentum, the project plans to distribute free two-week promotional codes this summer, giving users the ability to create and run cloud engines directly on Internet Computer nodes at no upfront cost. Williams said the initiative is designed to lower barriers and pull in a wider pool of builders and businesses.
A cloud engine is a dedicated private subnet within the ICP ecosystem that is configurable to a specific specification, allowing users to choose their own security, performance, and resilience parameters.Under the project's economic model, 80% of cloud engine revenue is redirected to the nodes that service them, while the remaining 20% goes toward buying back and burning $ICP, making the token supply deflationary.
Williams said the promo code rollout could strengthen demand for $ICP and speed up adoption of onchain artificial intelligence. The cloud engine push fits within a broader strategic shift at DFINITY. The foundation has been evolving the Internet Computer into a decentralized, sovereign cloud computing environment designed to natively host AI, autonomous infrastructure, and next-generation applications.
The Internet Computer is currently the only blockchain protocol capable of running an AI model as a smart contract, making it inherently resistant to cyberattacks and removing any reliance on centralised cloud infrastructure providers.The broader DFINITY roadmap also emphasises deeper AI integration, enabling users to create and update applications using natural language prompts.
The free promo campaign represents a direct attempt to convert enterprise curiosity into active usage on the network, with Williams framing it as a catalyst for both ecosystem growth and token economics. Whether the summer push translates into sustained demand will be a key test for the Internet Computer's positioning against established cloud providers.
