The Internet Computer protocol (@dfinity) just set a new benchmark in blockchain efficiency: a record-low weekly average transaction fee of $0.0000828, recorded on October 7, 2026, according to data from @Chainspect. That figure is a fraction of a single penny, placing $ICP among the cheapest networks in the world to transact on.
Record Revenue, Near-Zero Fees
What makes the milestone striking is the context. While fees for individual users sit at near-invisible levels, the network simultaneously generated more than $96,000 in on-chain cash flow in the same seven-day period. That follows a reported $85,089 in weekly protocol fees just days earlier, on September 29, 2026, as tracked by CoinMarketCap. The trend points to growing network usage rather than a one-off spike.
The apparent contradiction, rock-bottom user costs alongside rising network revenue, comes down to how the Internet Computer is designed. Developers pre-pay computation costs by converting $ICP into "cycles," which are then burned to power applications. The revenue is generated when developers convert ICP into cycles to pay for resources, and those ICP are subsequently burned. Users transacting on the network benefit from the resulting low fees, while the underlying token supply is gradually reduced.
A Network Built for Scale
ICP is capable of up to 11,500 transactions per second with a 1-second finality, making it notably faster than Bitcoin and Ethereum. That throughput, combined with its ultra-low fees, is central to the network's pitch as a decentralized cloud platform. The Internet Computer blockchain processed 1 billion transactions in Q1 2026 across 47 subnets with 1.2 million active wallets.
On the tokenomics side, DFINITY's ongoing "Mission 70" initiative is designed to reduce annual token inflation significantly, tightening supply as demand from developers grows. A burn mechanism was introduced where a portion of cloud engine fees buys and permanently destroys ICP. Rising on-chain cash flow, if sustained, could accelerate that burn rate and have longer-term implications for token supply.
For now, the headline number remains the fee itself: $0.0000828 per transaction. For a network processing billions of transactions and generating meaningful revenue, it is a data point that is hard to ignore.
