IREN, one of the largest publicly traded Bitcoin miners by hashrate, reported that its AI cloud revenue reached $70.5 million in its latest quarter, edging past the $66.7 million it earned from Bitcoin mining. It marks the first quarter in which the company's compute business out-earned the mining operation that built it.

A first-time crossover in IREN's revenue mix

The milestone appears in IREN's fiscal fourth-quarter results filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which show AI cloud revenue surpassing Bitcoin mining revenue for the first time. For related coverage, see IREN Q4 Results: AI Cloud Revenue Tops Bitcoin Mining.

The gap between the two segments is narrow, but the direction is what matters. IREN has been ranked among the world's top Bitcoin miners, making the compute business overtaking mining a notable inflection for a company defined by its hashrate. For related coverage, see Bitcoin mining costs rise post-halving amid AI power demand.

Why the split matters for a Bitcoin-first operator

For a miner, revenue that no longer depends primarily on block rewards and transaction fees changes the risk profile. The company's FY26 results release frames AI cloud as a distinct segment sitting alongside its mining fleet.

AI cloud, the business of renting graphics-processing-unit compute to customers running artificial-intelligence workloads, carries revenue that is contracted rather than tied to Bitcoin's price and difficulty. That contrasts with mining income, which fluctuates with hashrate economics and the post-halving reward. Rising energy competition has already pushed Bitcoin mining costs higher as AI power demand grows.

IREN has leaned into that demand, with shares rising after it secured Nvidia partner status and expanded its GPU fleet. The Q4 revenue crossover is the first time that GPU buildout has shown up as the larger line item.

What the shift signals going forward

The company retains dual exposure: it still operates a large Bitcoin mining fleet even as its AI cloud segment scales. Investors weighing IREN now have to price both a compute-infrastructure story and a mining story within one balance sheet, a tension common to U.S. Bitcoin miners expanding their footprint while facing profitability pressure.

The market reaction was not uniformly positive. IREN stock fell roughly 8% following the Q4 report, a reminder that a revenue-mix milestone does not automatically translate into share-price gains.

For the Bitcoin network, the takeaway is structural rather than immediate. When a top miner's economics tilt toward AI compute, its incentive to keep expanding hashrate depends less on the block subsidy and more on whichever workload pays better per megawatt, a calculation that will keep shaping how mining capacity competes for power against the AI sector.
