Justin Sun Confirms TRON Quantum-Resistant Security Is Live on Testnet
CryptoCompass editorial visual for altcoins coverage.

In Brief:

  • TRON founder Justin Sun confirmed quantum-resistant cryptography is operational on testnet, with the network preparing for potential mainnet security upgrades.

  • AmericanFortress introduced a quantum security framework that protects cryptocurrency wallets without requiring users to transfer funds or change existing addresses.

  • Bitcoin researchers secured $15 million in funding, while Ethereum and Algorand outlined separate plans to strengthen protection against quantum threats.

TRON founder Justin Sun has confirmed that the blockchain’s post-quantum cryptography is operational on testnet, marking progress toward stronger network security. In Sun’s Saturday announcement on X, TRON is preparing to introduce quantum-resistant protection on its mainnet when needed.

The development comes as blockchain developers examine potential security threats from advances in quantum computing and artificial intelligence. Sun explained that TRON is monitoring both technologies while preparing security measures designed to protect digital assets against future attacks.

The founder also emphasized TRON’s commitment to protecting user funds as the industry prepares for increasingly powerful computing systems. TRON aims to become one of the few major blockchain networks with quantum-resistant security before the arrival of Q-Day.

Q-Day refers to the point when quantum computers become powerful enough to compromise widely used cryptographic security systems. Despite the testnet deployment, Sun did not provide a specific timeline for introducing the technology across TRON’s mainnet.

Blockchain Networks Accelerate Quantum Security Preparations as TRON Advances Testnet Deployment

TRON’s announcement adds to growing efforts across the cryptocurrency industry to address vulnerabilities associated with quantum computing. Many blockchain networks rely on elliptic-curve cryptography, which sufficiently advanced quantum computers could potentially compromise.

Bitcoin and Ethereum use cryptographic systems that researchers have identified as potential targets of future quantum attacks. Meanwhile, blockchain security company AmericanFortress has proposed another approach to protecting cryptocurrency wallets against these emerging threats.

The company introduced a cryptographic framework designed to strengthen wallet security without requiring users to transfer their existing assets. The proposal also lets wallet holders keep existing addresses without rotating private keys or changing wallet configurations.

AmericanFortress published the framework through the Cryptography ePrint Archive, although the research had not undergone peer review. Other major blockchain organizations are also directing resources toward developing protection against potential quantum computing threats.

A consortium led by Strategy pledged $15 million toward research aimed at strengthening Bitcoin’s security against quantum attacks. Additionally, the Ethereum Foundation published a proposal outlining how accounts could migrate toward cryptographic systems designed to resist quantum threats.

Algorand has also outlined plans to introduce quantum-resistant accounts by 2027, reflecting broader preparations across blockchain networks.  TRON’s testnet deployment establishes an initial stage for implementing quantum-resistant cryptography before any potential mainnet integration.

Sun’s announcement indicates that the network has prepared the technology, although its broader deployment remains subject to future decisions. For now, TRON’s quantum-resistant system remains on testnet, while its mainnet rollout has no publicly confirmed implementation date.
