Justin Sun Says TRON is Preparing For Quantum Threats

TRON (@trondao) has deployed its post-quantum cryptography technology to testnet, according to founder Justin Sun (@justinsuntron). In a post on X on Saturday, Sun said the team is closely tracking progress in quantum computing and AI, and is ready to bring quantum resistance to mainnet at any time.$TRX is the network's native token.

What TRON has deployed so far

TRON has enabled post-quantum signature support on its Nile testnet, giving developers an environment to test the technology before any mainnet rollout. The activation followed Committee Proposal No. 20628, approved on July 2, 2026, which enabled FN-DSA-512, a post-quantum signature algorithm associated with the Falcon family, on the Nile network.

Sun also framed the work around so-called Q-Day. He wrote that TRON is set to be one of the few major blockchains that is quantum-resistant before Q-Day, the point at which quantum computers could break widely used cryptographic systems.

There is no mainnet date yet. Yellow reported that Sun named no date for a mainnet launch.Cryptometer noted that a public statement does not establish the upgrade is ready for immediate deployment. The testnet activation does not affect TRON's live mainnet operations.

The stakes are significant given the network's role in stablecoin settlement. CoinCentral reported that TRON holds over $94 billion in USDT and more than $28 billion in total value locked.

Other networks are working on the same problem

TRON is not alone. Bitcoin ($BTC) and Ethereum ($ETH) are also exploring quantum-resistant security. Bitcoin developers have published a post-quantum security roadmap led by Christine Kim, covering interventions such as BIP-360, SHRINCS, Lifeboat and Dropkick.Developers are aiming for quantum resistance across data layers, consensus and execution by December 2029.

BIP-360 itself is still a work in progress. It remains a draft proposal, and its P2MR output would commit funds to a Merkle root, reducing long-term public-key exposure while providing a structure for future quantum-resistant signatures.Ethereum released its own post-quantum security framework on September 9, also aiming for quantum resistance by December 2029.

For TRON, the testnet deployment is an early technical step rather than a finished upgrade. The next milestone to watch is whether the team sets a timeline for mainnet activation.
