TRON founder Justin Sun has revealed that he sold roughly 80% to 90% of his Ethereum position around the $3,600 to $4,000 range, keeping only a smaller core holding and later rotating much of that capital into U.S. stocks.

The disclosure came during an interview with William Joy, where Jin Ming asked Sun whether he had reduced either Ethereum or Bitcoin after the crypto market topped last year. Sun said Ethereum had previously been their largest position and confirmed that most of it was sold around November and December 2025.

“We cut at least 80% to 90% of the position,” Sun said, while adding that he did not exit completely and still holds a base ETH position. He also said he had not bought back in as of the interview.

Sun Says Ethereum’s Double Top Looked Fragile

Sun said his decision was driven mainly by the chart.

He described Ethereum as having formed a fragile double top. In his view, the first move took ETH toward the $4,800 area, followed by a pullback. The second push higher, he argued, depended more heavily on ETF-related demand and large buyers such as Tom Lee, which made the structure look less convincing to him.

Ethereum reached about $4,957 in August 2025, then another high near $4,755 in October. ETH later fell to roughly $2,624 in November.

By October 18, 2026, Ethereum was trading near $2,407.

That means ETH is now roughly 33% below $3,600 and about 40% below $4,000, making Sun’s exit range look favorable in hindsight.

His Bitcoin strategy was very different. Sun said he left his core BTC holdings untouched and did not reduce that position over the past year.

After cutting Ethereum exposure, Sun said he increased his allocation to U.S. equities, reflecting a clear shift away from ETH and toward traditional markets.

The key point is that this was not a fresh Ethereum sale. Sun was describing a position reduction that took place months earlier, and his comments offer more insight into how he viewed ETH’s technical setup at the time than into what he plans to do next.
