Developers have published the technical specifications for @KaspaDollar, described as the first native stablecoin built on proof-of-work (PoW) infrastructure. The design would give $KAS miners a direct role in keeping the token pegged to the US dollar.

How the Kaspa Dollar Oracle Is Designed to Work

According to the published design, a decentralized oracle supported by @Kaspaunchained miners would guarantee dollar parity. The oracle is driven by KIP-21 sequencing commitments. Price feed data would be stored in the proof-of-work block space.

Developers say this approach would make the oracle uncensorable and give miners an additional stream of income. The project describes the plan as a design only at this stage, and the protocol's website carries further detail.

KIP-21 is already part of Kaspa's protocol upgrade pipeline. Kaspa Explained's status tracker lists it as a partitioned sequencing commitment and shows its status as Active, alongside KIP-16, KIP-17 and KIP-20, which cover verifiable computation opcodes, covenants and scripting, and covenant IDs. The same page notes that applications can build oracle, attestation and coordination-market systems on top of Kaspa.

Why Proof-of-Work Matters for Kaspa

Most large stablecoins rely on centralized issuers or on networks that use other consensus models. A PoW-based design would tie the stablecoin's price data to Kaspa's mining layer instead.

Kaspa is a proof-of-work network. Kaspa's own project site describes it as a fair-launched blockDAG running at 10 blocks per second, with mainnet launching in November 2021. Coinbase's asset overview says the network uses the GHOSTDAG protocol, which lets blocks created in parallel coexist and orders them in consensus.

Miners earn newly issued KAS and fees for securing the network. A price oracle supported by those miners would add a new source of revenue on top of block rewards, if the design reaches production.

Since the proposal is not yet live, key questions remain open. These include how the oracle would be secured against manipulation, how the peg would be maintained in volatile markets, and when any launch could take place. Readers can review the protocol's website for the full technical specifications.
