Cross-chain interoperability protocol LayerZero is pulling offchain support from 15 low-activity chains as part of an operational cleanup that takes effect over the next 30 days. LayerZero is winding down offchain support for these chains with minimal activity, meaning its DVN and Executor services will no longer be available on the affected networks.
The affected chains named in the announcement include EDU Chain, Meter, Shimmer, Cyber, Silicon, Sophon, Bitlayer, Degen, Arbitrum Nova, and Cronos zkEVM, among others. The DVN (decentralized verifier network) and Executors, collectively responsible for offchain communication between different chains, will be deprecated across the affected networks.DVNs verify cross-chain messages, while Executors submit approved messages to destination-chain contracts.
The decision concerns LayerZero Labs' offchain support rather than a shutdown of LayerZero's immutable endpoint contracts. In other words, the core protocol itself remains intact, but operators relying on LayerZero Labs' own infrastructure on these chains will lose those routes once the transition is complete.
The deprecation also has direct consequences for Stargate users. The Stargate v2 protocol will no longer support the affected chains as of their respective effective dates, and Stargate users should redeem their assets (USDC.e, wETH, USDT) from these chains, as failure to act before chain support is fully deprecated will result in losing access to funds.
LayerZero recommends moving funds to chains with deeper liquidity, such as Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, or BSC.Applications relying on LayerZero Labs' services will lose those routes unless their operators adopt alternative infrastructure or migrate their deployments.
The move reads as routine housekeeping rather than a retreat from the protocol's core, since the affected chains carried minimal volume to begin with. Still, anyone holding assets on the named networks should treat the 30-day window as urgent. Once those services stop operating on an affected chain, users may no longer have a working route to burn the Hydra representation and recover the pool-backed asset.
