Greywick Digital (@Greywickdigital) and the Litecoin Foundation (@LTCFoundation) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to bring $cLTC, a Canton-native version of $LTC, to the @CantonNetwork. The agreement targets a live deployment before the end of 2026, opening one of crypto's oldest proof-of-work networks to institutional-grade finance infrastructure.
What cLTC Is and How It Will Work
The MoU recognises cLTC, created by Greywick Digital, as the version of Litecoin on Canton that the Litecoin Foundation will support for institutional trading, yield-bearing products, and other institutional-grade vehicles used within the network.cLTC will go live once the reserve addresses, attestation format, and launch sequence are officially published, work that is already under way via a live testnet.
Each cLTC token will operate under on-chain reserve validation, continuous attestations, and built-in compliance mechanisms, preserving the auditability that institutional participants require. The structure is designed to link $LTC's more than 15 years of network history to Canton's regulated multi-party settlement environment.
Why Canton Matters for Institutions
The Canton Network describes itself as the only public, permissionless blockchain purpose-built for institutional finance, combining privacy, compliance, and scalability, and enabling real-time, secure synchronization and settlement across multiple asset classes on a shared, interoperable infrastructure. It was launched in 2023 by a consortium that includes BNP Paribas, CBOE, Deutsche Boerse, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, and Paxos, among others.
Through cLTC, Litecoin will be usable within institutional settlement infrastructure alongside organisations such as DTCC, Goldman Sachs, Circle, and BNY Mellon. That puts $LTC liquidity into an environment where, DTCC is already working to enable a subset of US Treasury securities custodied at DTC to be minted on the Canton Network.
The move reflects a broader trend of connecting established crypto assets to regulated financial rails. Canton's privacy-first design means counterparties see only the transaction data relevant to them, a feature that has helped attract Tier-1 institutions that are cautious about exposing proprietary flow on fully public ledgers. For Litecoin, the partnership represents a concrete institutional use case at a moment when many legacy crypto assets are searching for fresh relevance beyond retail trading.
