The crypto market fell 3.79% in 24 hours to $2.71T, with Bitcoin ($BTC) down 4.20% at $81,125. Against that backdrop, @MemeCore_M's MemeCore ($M) rose 18.36% to $0.8932, making it the only big gainer in the top 100. Starknet ($STRK) was the weakest large token, falling 16.22% to $0.054.
MemeCore rallies on thin volume
MemeCore's advance came on light trading. Just $3.88M changed hands over 24 hours against a market capitalisation of about $2.04B, a low ratio that suggests the move was not backed by heavy turnover. CoinMarketCap data shows a similar picture for 24-hour volume, with the token still about 81% below its April 2026 all-time high of $4.84.
No project-specific announcement has been clearly tied to the gain. CryptoPotato noted that it remains unclear what triggered the revival, while pointing to a change in how M liquidity is bridged, which now runs through LayerZero. Analysts cited by CoinMarketCap have also flagged concerns about insider supply control and past extreme volatility.
Starknet extends its slide after the Layer 1 rally
@Starknet's $STRK fell 16.22% on $118.43M in volume, the steepest drop in the top 100. That extends a 39.6% weekly decline from $0.0915.
The token had surged earlier in the month. StarkWare first floated the idea of an independent Layer 1 network on Oct. 8, and STRK hit an intraday high of $0.1265 on October 11, according to Crypto Briefing, citing AltcoinBuzz. The team said at the time that this would enable Starknet to become the first fully quantum-resistant network, with 2027 as the target.
Supply added pressure during the pullback. A scheduled unlock released 127 million STRK to early contributors and investors on October 15, worth about $11 million at the time, per Tokenomist data. Unlocks of up to that size are scheduled to continue monthly through March 2027.
A community vote on the Layer 1 proposal has since concluded. Bitcoin.com reported that STRK tumbled on Thursday following the vote, and that under the proposed approach STRK would remain Starknet's native token, with no plans to introduce a replacement. The earlier Snapshot poll was described as non-binding.
Network activity has held up better than the token. Crypto Briefing reported that Starknet's DeFi total value locked fell 5.3% over the same period, a smaller drop than the token's. Even so, the token is down nearly 99% since peaking at $4.41 in Feb. 2024.
