While this pullback has caught investors’ attention, the majority of Wall Street professionals remain unfazed.

The memory chip manufacturer reached heights exceeding $1,200 in late June, following an exceptionally robust quarterly report. Earnings per share registered at $25.11, substantially surpassing the $21.39 analyst consensus. Top-line revenue reached $41.46 billion, representing a remarkable 345.8% year-over-year increase.

Management also provided forward guidance for Q4 2026, projecting EPS between $30.00 and $32.00, indicating continued expansion.

Nevertheless, shares have experienced downward pressure since then. The primary worry? Whether such elevated profit margins can persist in an industry characterized by cyclical volatility.

Mizuho’s Vijay Rakesh remains unconvinced by bearish sentiment. Following discussions with Micron leadership, he reaffirmed his Outperform stance this week alongside a $1,375 price objective.

Rakesh noted that company management anticipates both DRAM and NAND markets remaining constrained through 2027, with substantial new capacity unlikely before 2028.

He further suggests investor sentiment could improve if Micron sustains gross margins exceeding 80%, which he considers achievable given recently secured long-term supply contracts.

Wall Street Projections and Recommendations

The wider analyst base demonstrates substantial support. Raymond James elevated its price objective from $1,100 to $1,500. Wells Fargo increased its forecast from $1,220 to $1,525. Needham pushed even further, raising its target from $1,550 to $1,650 while maintaining a Buy recommendation.

Among 39 analysts tracked, the average price target stands at $1,260.31. Four analysts assign Strong Buy ratings, 31 recommend Buy, and just three suggest Hold.

Trading at a forward P/E ratio below six, several analysts view current valuation levels as attractive entry points.

Rakesh’s valuation framework assigns the stock 5.3 times his projected 2027 book value. Current forward price-to-book metrics indicate 3.4 times.

Chinese Competition Concerns and Executive Transactions

A potential headwind involves emerging Chinese rivals. Apple has allegedly pursued procurement opportunities with China’s CXMT as part of supply chain diversification efforts.

Rakesh dismissed Chinese competition worries as “overblown,” maintaining that CXMT remains oriented toward domestic markets and lacks capabilities to compete meaningfully in high-bandwidth memory segments.

Among institutional holders, E. Ohman J or Asset Management expanded its Micron stake by 3.7% during Q2. Institutional ownership collectively represents 80.84% of outstanding shares.

However, company insiders have been reducing positions. During the past 90 days, insiders divested 162,179 shares valued at approximately $167.8 million. Chief Executive Sanjay Mehrotra sold shares worth around $36 million in May at average prices of $960.38.

Technical indicators show Micron’s 50-day moving average at $971.54, considerably above current trading levels, while the 200-day moving average registers at $664.13.

The semiconductor company distributes a quarterly dividend of $0.15 per share, yielding approximately 0.1%.
