Before that, the current quarter is due to bring private lending, private swaps and the first link to Ethereum-style chains, with positions and trade amounts kept hidden.
Midnight's published roadmap says NIGHT holders will be able to delegate tokens to a stake pool and earn rewards, without having to run servers themselves. The same roadmap describes a phased move from the network's current consensus system, Aura, to a new one called BABE, and says stake pool operators will begin earning NIGHT for producing blocks.
Cardano stake pool operators are also expected to join as block producers. Midnight describes this as bringing a large group of independent operators onto the network and reducing reliance on any single party. TokenPost reports that ADA delegators to participating pools could earn NIGHT rewards alongside their usual ADA staking rewards.
Details on the economics remain thin. TradingView News notes that the roadmap sets a quarterly target rather than an exact launch date, and does not specify reward rates or participation terms.
For institutions, Midnight is building tokenized bank deposits and private token contracts. Tokenized funds, credit and property are due in early 2027, along with controls that let issuers freeze holdings or force a transfer when a court or regulator requires it. Coin-Turk's summary of the roadmap also lists privacy-oriented tokens with confidential balances and transfers among the institutional items.
A longer-term track focuses on proofs designed to withstand future quantum computers. German outlet Kryptorevolution reports that a project called Nightstream is meant to protect zero-knowledge proofs against future quantum attacks, with Q4 work focused on proof computation time and size.
The roadmap follows a period of rapid development for the network. CoinDesk reported in December 2025 that NIGHT had debuted as Input Output's attempt to give Cardano a programmable privacy layer built on zero-knowledge proofs. Crypto.news reported that the federated mainnet launched on March 31, 2026, and that NIGHT had fallen roughly 60 percent from its December 2025 debut.
