Summary
- DigitalX plans to raise $35.3 million through new shares allocated entirely to controlling shareholder Mirae Asset Consulting for financial stability.
- Mirae Asset plans to develop DigitalX beyond Korbit, combining traditional and digital financial assets under its Mirae Asset 3.0 strategy.
- Korean financial institutions are expanding crypto exposure, with Hana Bank, Samsung affiliates, and Korea Investment securing stakes in exchange operators.
DigitalX plans to raise about 50 billion won, worth $35.3 million, through a capital increase backed by Mirae Asset Consulting. The funding will help the Korbit operator strengthen its financial position and address pressing management needs.
According to News1, DigitalX’s board approved over 10 million new shares at 4,961 won each, with Mirae Asset Consulting acquiring them all. Payment is scheduled for August 27, injecting additional capital as DigitalX strengthens its financial structure and addresses urgent management requirements.
Mirae Asset Consulting owns 97.15% of DigitalX following its acquisition of Korbit for approximately 130 billion won. That transaction was valued at roughly $91.5 million. South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission approved the acquisition, allowing Mirae Asset to take control of the licensed cryptocurrency exchange operator.

DigitalX Becomes Key Part of Mirae Asset’s Digital Finance Strategy
Korbit’s operating company has also changed its corporate name from Korbit Co. to DigitalX Co. However, its cryptocurrency trading platform will retain the Korbit name for the time being.
Mirae Asset plans to develop DigitalX into a platform connecting digital assets with traditional financial products. Moreover, the company forms part of the financial group’s broader “Mirae Asset 3.0” strategy.
The proposed capital injection could provide DigitalX with additional resources for that transformation. It also strengthens Mirae Asset’s position within South Korea’s regulated digital asset industry.
Korbit remains one of five fully licensed cryptocurrency exchanges permitted to provide fiat-to-crypto trading services in South Korea. Nevertheless, Upbit and Bithumb control much of the domestic cryptocurrency exchange market.
Korean Financial Institutions Increase Crypto Exchange Investments
Several major Korean financial institutions have also taken positions in domestic cryptocurrency exchange operators. Consequently, traditional finance has developed deeper connections with the country’s regulated digital asset sector.
Hana Bank acquired a 6.55% stake in Dunamu, which operates Upbit. Additionally, three Samsung affiliates, including Samsung Securities, acquired a combined 4% interest in the company.
Korea Investment & Securities also secured roughly 20% of Coinone alongside OKX Ventures. These investments show how established financial groups are building exposure through licensed cryptocurrency businesses.
DigitalX’s proposed $35.3 million fundraising strengthens Mirae Asset’s commitment to this broader shift. The additional capital could support DigitalX as Mirae Asset expands its digital and traditional asset strategy.
