@MoonPay has launched PayBox, a payment vault designed to let AI agents handle real financial transactions directly inside popular chat applications, without ever touching a user's private keys or holding custody of their funds.

What PayBox Does

PayBox connects to AI assistants including Anthropic's Claude, OpenAI's ChatGPT, xAI's Grok, and Google's Gemini through a custom connector. Once linked, users can instruct their AI in plain language to move money, trade assets, or pay for services. With PayBox active, users can ask ChatGPT or Claude to swap tokens, bridge assets, book travel, or make purchases using natural language, while keeping full control of their wallets and funds.

On the crypto side, the technology allows agents to exchange $PYUSD, trade on @HyperliquidX, and move funds to the @RobinhoodCrypto Chain. The AI prepares the transaction, the user approves it with a passkey, and the payment is completed.PayBox launches with support for Solana alongside EVM-compatible networks including Ethereum, Base, Robinhood Chain, Arbitrum, Polygon, Hyperliquid, and Tempo.

The product runs on two payment rails simultaneously. Card payments are processed through @Visa's agentic commerce protocol, while crypto-native transactions use the x402 standard. The x402 protocol is a payment standard for internet-based transactions that enables payments between AI agents, machines, and users via HTTP.Originally developed by Coinbase and now stewarded by the x402 Foundation, the goal is to enable payments between AI agents, machines, and users through standard HTTP, without requiring subscriptions or manual entry of card details.

Security Architecture

The security design behind PayBox is built around two established cryptographic concepts: Multi-Party Computation (MPC) and Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs). Wallet keys are split via MPC across hardware-isolated enclaves, so no device, session, or party, not MoonPay, not the AI agent, ever holds a complete key or can sign alone.

The infrastructure behind the product comes from Sodot, the key management company MoonPay acquired earlier this year. According to MoonPay, Sodot's technology already secures more than 10 million wallets and over $50 billion in digital assets, infrastructure that now underpins every PayBox vault.

PayBox lands as agentic commerce moves from concept to reality. The x402 protocol has already processed approximately $15 million in adjusted transaction volume on-chain, with cumulative transactions crossing the 100 million mark. MoonPay is positioning PayBox as an open alternative to the walled approaches being built by larger platforms, with the product live now at paybox.sh.
