MTN NIGERIA IS PAYING ₦26 PER SHARE — BUT HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL ACTUALLY RECEIVE
CryptoCompass editorial visual for policy coverage.

But if you’re an MTN shareholder, there’s one number you should pay attention to:

₦23.40.

Why?

Because the 10% withholding tax means the ₦26 announced dividend becomes ₦23.40 net in your account.

Where does the money go?

MTN International, the majority shareholder, is expected to receive about ₦360.58 billion after tax.

The Nigerian government will collect approximately ₦54.59 billion through withholding tax.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s 336,000+ retail shareholders, who collectively own just 0.66% of MTN Nigeria, will receive roughly ₦3.22 billion after tax.

That’s an interesting picture of how dividend money is distributed.

And MTN’s numbers are getting stronger.

MTN Nigeria reported ₦1.11 trillion in profit after tax for 2025, while H1 2026 profit increased 70.6% year-on-year.

The company has also paid ₦384.05 billion in taxes during the period.

One important date:

📅 Shareholders must be on the register by August 20, 2026, to qualify for the dividend.

THE BIG LESSON FOR INVESTORS

When you hear:

“MTN is paying ₦26 dividend per share”

remember that ₦26 is the gross dividend.

What matters to you is the amount that actually reaches your account.

Always know your gross dividend, withholding tax, and net dividend.

Because in investing, knowing the headline is good.

Knowing the numbers is better.
