Bitcoin may dominate headlines, but recent movements in Treasury yields could tell investors far more about where risk assets are headed next.

@NEARProtocol's $NEAR token logged more than $1.2 billion in 24-hour trading volume on June 3, according to CoinMarketCap data, placing it 12th in the top 20 cryptocurrencies ranked by volume, just behind $HYPE and $DOGE. The token gained roughly 7% over the same period.
The jump in activity is not purely speculative. According to Crypto Briefing, $NEAR climbed roughly 115% in the 90 days leading up to late May 2026, with daily trading volumes repeatedly topping $1 billion following a series of protocol-level announcements. Three developments stand out. First, NEAR completed a Halving Upgrade in Q4 2025 that cut maximum annual inflation from 5% to 2.5%. Second, the protocol activated an Intents fee switch that channels cross-chain revenue into $NEAR buybacks, creating persistent buy pressure on the token. Third, NEAR rolled out a suite of AI-focused products in May 2026, including automatic PII anonymisation for AI prompts and Confidential Treasuries for on-chain privacy.
CoinMarketCap also notes that the protocol's trading activity has shown a clear upward trend, with volumes accelerating alongside each major announcement.
Much of the current excitement centres on NEAR's quantum-era roadmap. The Crypto Times reported that NEAR is preparing to become one of the first major Layer-1 blockchains to ship a post-quantum-safe signing scheme, with a testnet launch planned before the end of Q2 2026 using NIST-approved ML-DSA (FIPS-204). The upgrade is designed to protect accounts against the long-term threat posed by quantum computing to conventional elliptic-curve cryptography.
Co-founder Illia Polosukhin confirmed on June 2 that the protocol plans to deploy post-quantum cryptography by end of Q2, adding that the rollout is structured to give users time to upgrade. Polosukhin, who also co-authored the influential 2017 "Attention Is All You Need" AI research paper, has framed NEAR as fundamental infrastructure for AI-driven commerce and described the token as the "currency of agents."
The v2.13 protocol upgrade, also scheduled for June 2026, introduces dynamic resharding alongside the post-quantum signing work, allowing the network to automatically scale the number of shards based on real-time transaction demand rather than a fixed configuration.
Taken together, the improved tokenomics, AI product pipeline, and quantum-security roadmap appear to be reinforcing each other in the market, with volume and price action reflecting a broader re-rating of the asset.
