Oil Falls Below $100 After U.S. Midterms — Is the Market Underpricing Weekend Risk?

Oil has continued to fall following the U.S. midterm elections and is now trading below the psychological $100 level.

At first glance, the story seems simple.

Democrats took control of Congress, markets began pricing a greater possibility of de-escalation in the Iran conflict, oil dropped sharply, and risk sentiment improved.

But for me, the more important question is what happens next.

Has the geopolitical risk really disappeared?

I don’t think so.

Why I’m Still Watching the Weekend

The election changed the political landscape in Washington, but the newly elected Congress does not take office until January.

Until then, the existing political and military structure remains in place, while uncertainty surrounding Iran, the United States, and Israel has not disappeared.

That matters because oil has become one of the most important drivers of financial markets in recent weeks.

When geopolitical tensions increased, oil moved sharply higher. At the same time, inflation concerns returned and pressure increased across U.S. equities, BTC, ETH, Gold, and other major assets.

Now we are seeing the opposite.

Oil is falling, inflation fears are easing, and risk assets have been given some room to recover.

But as we approach another weekend, I believe the market may be becoming too comfortable too quickly.

One geopolitical headline could change that story again.

Technical Analysis

On the Daily timeframe, oil is now trading inside the Heavy Support Zone($78-$96) and the more immediate Support Zone($93-$96).

These two areas overlap, which makes the current price region particularly interesting to me.

After such a strong decline, I would not be surprised to see buyers attempt a reaction from this support structure.

My short-term scenario is for oil to attempt a bullish recovery over the next 24 hours.

If buyers defend the current support zones, the first challenge will be reclaiming the psychological $100 level.

Above that, I would watch approximately $101.83.

If momentum strengthens further, oil could continue toward $103.90 and potentially $108.20.

My Trading Scenario

First Take Profit(TP): $97.30

Second Take Profit(TP): $103.90

Third Take Profit(TP): $108.20

Stop Loss(SL): $91.40

Key Trading Level: $104.50

For me, however, this setup is not only about technical analysis.

The biggest risk remains geopolitics.

If tensions between Iran, the U.S., or Israel suddenly escalate, oil could move much faster than normal technical conditions would suggest.

The opposite is also true.

A meaningful diplomatic breakthrough could remove more of the geopolitical premium and push oil deeper into its support structure.

Why Crypto Traders Should Care About Oil

This is the part I think crypto traders should not ignore.

Oil may not be a cryptocurrency, but recently its movement has been influencing almost every major risk market.

If oil remains below $100 and continues lower, inflation expectations could ease further. That could support U.S. equities and potentially improve sentiment around Bitcoin and Ethereum.

But if geopolitical fear returns and oil suddenly reclaims $100 with strong momentum, risk appetite could weaken again.

That is why I am watching oil alongside Bitcoin rather than treating the two markets separately.

My View

The election result clearly changed market expectations.

Oil reacted accordingly.

But I do not believe one election result is enough to completely remove geopolitical risk from the market.

Technically, oil is now sitting in an area where a bullish reaction is possible.

Fundamentally, another weekend is approaching with Middle East uncertainty still unresolved.

So for me, the next 24–48 hours could become very important.

Can oil reclaim $100 and begin another recovery?

Or was the election-driven decline only the beginning of a much deeper correction?

More importantly for crypto traders: if oil starts rising again, will Bitcoin and risk assets feel the pressure once more?
