Online Integrated Solution has pushed back against reports that it has been permanently removed from handling Nigerian visa applications in the United States. The service body describes the current service interruption as a temporary pause tied to an administrative process rather than a termination of its contract.
The clarification, shared with Nairametrics on Friday, came a day after the Nigeria Immigration Service announced that OIS Services had been “disengaged” from collecting and submitting visa applications on behalf of Nigerian diplomatic missions in the US, directing applicants to submit directly at the Embassy in Washington, D.C. or the Consulates in New York and Atlanta.
OIS stated that the situation arises from a U.S. government administrative requirement governing how private companies are recognised as service providers supporting visa processing and consular functions on behalf of foreign missions. The company maintained that this process is still ongoing and has not been concluded, meaning its suspension is procedural rather than permanent.

“The current situation relates to an administrative process concerning the recognition of private companies, such as OIS, as service providers supporting visa processing and related consular functions on behalf of foreign missions, in accordance with applicable U.S. Government procedures,” the company said.
“Pending the completion of that administrative process, visa application submission and biometric services through OIS have been temporarily paused.”

OIS added that it remains committed to supporting the Nigerian government and is actively working with relevant authorities to restore services once the administrative requirements are met.
The two statements, one from NIS describing a permanent disengagement and the other from OIS describing a temporary pause, leave applicants in an uncertain position. NIS has not responded publicly to OIS’s clarification, and no joint statement has been issued to resolve the conflicting accounts.

Until the situation is formally resolved, the safest course of action for anyone applying for a Nigerian visa in the United States is to follow the NIS directive and approach the Embassy in Washington, D.C., or the Consulates in New York or Atlanta directly.
Waiting for OIS services to resume carries risk if the interruption turns out to be longer than anticipated or if NIS’s version of events, a full disengagement proves to be accurate.
For Nigerian Visa applicants who are mid-process through OIS and have already submitted documents or paid fees, the most important step is to contact the Nigerian Embassy or Consulate directly to clarify the status of their application and what documentation they need to resubmit or carry forward.

The NIS has said diplomatic missions have put measures in place for seamless processing, though the specifics of those arrangements have not been made public. Applicants are advised to monitor the NIS official channels and the Nigerian Mission’s communications for updates as the situation develops.
