Open Standard's much-anticipated dollar stablecoin, Open USD ($OUSD), is now live. According to Crypto Briefing, Open USD went live on Ethereum, Solana, Coinbase's Base, and Stripe-backed Tempo blockchains, marking the formal market entry of a project that first surfaced in late June.
OUSD is issued by Bridge, a Stripe company, and backed by reserves held at @BlackRock, Lead Bank, and @BNYMellon, with monthly attestations planned. The token offers 1:1 USD mint and burn at no cost, making it accessible for corporate treasuries, remittances, and FX liquidity without the fee friction common to competing stablecoins.
A Consortium Built for Enterprise Scale
The project is unusual in both its size and structure. Open Standard's broader partner network has grown from more than 140 to over 200 companies, spanning payments, banking, big tech, and crypto infrastructure. @Coinbase, @Mastercard, @Stripe, and @Visa are Open Standard's founding partners and investors, each receiving an equal initial equity stake in the company.
The project rests on three stated principles: businesses can mint and redeem $OUSD at no cost with no volume caps; partners keep nearly all reserve earnings after a small management fee; and governance sits with a board made up of partner institutions rather than one controlling company. That structure directly inverts the model used by incumbents such as Tether and Circle, where the issuer retains the float on reserves.
Open USD is entering a stablecoin market worth more than $300 billion and still dominated by two players: Tether's USDT, with about $143 billion in circulation, and Circle's USDC, with roughly $74 billion.
Integration Pipelines and What Comes Next
Developers can integrate $OUSD through four paths provided by @Coinbase, @Mastercard, @Stripe and @Visa, each offering APIs and tools for settlement, payment orchestration, trading, wallets and cards, alongside free 1:1 USD mint and burn functionality.@BVNK and the @Visa Stablecoin Platform are available immediately.
@Stripe has made Open USD its default stablecoin for business payments.$OUSD will also be available on centralized and decentralized trading platforms including @Coinbase, Kraken, and Uniswap.@Coinbase's full integration is set to go live on October 1.
Tempo, the Stripe-backed Layer 1 blockchain, has added $OUSD with over $400 million in liquidity, targeting business payments, settlement, and treasury management.
