Brazil’s state-run oil and gas giant Petrobras is deploying Cardano’s Layer-1 blockchain to support its renewable energy initiatives, applying ADA-based solutions in monitoring the progress of new sustainable fuels. Cardano Foundation confirmed it is working in collaboration with Petrobras and the blockchain research center Ledger Labs at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro on two major pilot programs.

Tracking sustainability in Brazilian fuel supply

The partnership’s first initiative focuses on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a product designed to reduce carbon emissions from air travel. By using Cardano’s blockchain, Petrobras aims to ensure transparent and tamper-proof records about SAF production and distribution. These on-chain records serve as an auditable proof source regarding the origins and movement of environmental data across the supply chain.

Rafael Fraga, Cardano’s LATAM Business Development Lead, addressed the complexities facing industry adoption of greener fuels:

The energy transition will depend as much on trust as it does on new fuels, with value chains becoming more complex. It is critical to prove where environmental data comes from, how it moves, and who can rely on it.

Through blockchain transparency, the system helps determine eligibility claims for the environmental benefits created by SAF production. This approach is intended to allocate credits and incentives fairly along the value chain, in line with regulatory requirements.

Diesel R and lifecycle data monitoring

The second utility case introduces blockchain-based data monitoring for Diesel R, Petrobras’ renewable energy adaptation of traditional diesel. This alternative fuel is designed to offer a lower-emission and potentially cost-effective solution for consumers and businesses.

Petrobras’ Cardano-powered system tracks data across all lifecycle stages of Diesel R, from production to transportation and end-user application. The company aims to provide consistent, verifiable information to authorities, partners, and customers, supporting both transparency and compliance in environmental reporting.

Reliable tracking of indirect (Scope 3) emissions—those occurring across the supply chain of suppliers and customers, often recorded by third parties—also becomes possible with on-chain data. Companies can now gather and verify decentralized records for emissions reporting, addressing a major challenge for industries focused on sustainability targets.

Market participants are increasingly looking at technical details such as timing, token selection by investors, and behavioral trends when new green technologies or digital assets are introduced. In the meme token market, an internet trend can quickly accelerate interest and investment. Fomo App has highlighted a trade involving the “Niu Lai” token, where an initial $99 investment reportedly yielded approximately $370,000, underlining the pace and potential of this sector. The app combines token discovery, trading, social feeds, investor rankings, and trade alerts on a single platform, enabling followers to track meme token market momentum and investor behavior together.

By integrating Cardano’s blockchain with cutting-edge digital monitoring solutions, Petrobras aims to lead the Brazilian energy sector into a more sustainable and accountable future.

Cardano’s blockchain link allows companies to report indirect Scope 3 emissions, offering a way to transparently track the contributions and impacts of suppliers and customers in the renewable energy lifecycle.
