A Complementary Role, Not a Replacement

Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) has outlined plans to explore stablecoin integration within its ecosystem, making clear that any such solution would work alongside its native token rather than replace it. The project outlined its stablecoin strategy in a blog post on 8 October 2026, positioning stablecoins as complementary to Pi.

Pi Network said its native cryptocurrency will retain the primary role in the network. Stablecoins would serve a complementary function by providing more predictable pricing for commerce, payments, settlement and other activities affected by volatility in the price of $PI.

Pi explained that stablecoins could bring more economic activity inside its ecosystem rather than forcing users to rely on external infrastructure.

The Open Standard Partnership and Pioneer Rewards

The partnership with Open Standard (@openstandard), the company behind Open USD (OUSD), was announced on 30 September 2026.Open Standard has over 200 partnerships, including with Visa, Google, and Stripe.OUSD is available on Ethereum, Solana, Base, and Tempo, connecting Pi to multi-chain platforms.

Participating partners can earn rewards based on the OUSD supply and activity they generate on their platforms, and can also become eligible to earn equity in Open Standard. Under the exploratory agreement, Pi Network intends to investigate how those reward mechanisms could benefit its Pioneers.

Key technical and commercial details remain undecided, including deployment on Pi, a contract address, liquidity goals and the structure of any rewards program. Current work is focused on principles for possible future stablecoin integration, with compliance identified as an important consideration.

Pi has not yet explained exactly how any Pioneer reward program would work, who would qualify, or when it might launch. Nor has it confirmed that OUSD will become natively supported on its blockchain. No specific launch timeline has been announced.
