Pi's Mainnet has passed 28.9 million ledgers, and a new one now closes every five seconds. Pi Network News today starts with that steady run. Readings from the official Horizon API show the core, history and ingest layers fully in sync, with no lag.
It shows the network running Protocol 27 while migration claims keep flowing, just ahead of the Protocol 28 upgrade on October 16. Pi coin price is also higher, up 2.24% to $0.0907 following the upgrade news.
The public endpoint gives a clear picture of how the network is running. It is the same data any developer can query. Here is what the snapshot showed:
Ledger:Past 28,905,700 and still rising.
Close time:A new ledger every 5 seconds.
Sync: Ingest, history and core ledgers aligned, with no lag.
Protocol: Version 27, running stellar-core v27.1.0.
Base fee: 100,000 stroops, or 0.01 Pi.
Custom tokens: None unverified on the Layer 1 chain, per the post.
Much of the activity is migration. Thousands of claim operations run daily as Pioneers unlock moved Pi, and Core Team accounts keep sending out batches. A community audit of the endpoint, shared on X, also reports no unverified custom tokens on Layer 1. It is not an independent review.
Stellar also set a new throughput record of 217.4 transactions per second, per community posts. Pi uses a Stellar-derived consensus design, so some holders see that as a good sign for the shared technology. It does not change Pi's own capacity or price directly.
Pi opened its network to outside transfers on February 20, 2025, per minepi.com. Migration and upgrades have carried on since. That steady work leaves one open question in this Pi network update: what about features people hope will come next?
Posts on social media say Pi is building a wallet that works during a full internet outage. No such product has been announced. Neither the Core Team nor minepi.com describes one.
The idea is hard to deliver. Offline payments risk double spending and clashes when a device reconnects. What exists today is narrower:
Local storage: Announced September 4, 2026. Approved apps in Pi Browser can keep preferences and session data on the device. The storage pool is shared and limited.
SoloHost:In beta since late June 2026. It lets users run self-hosted apps and local AI agents on their own computers.
Pi Wallet: Keys stay on the device. QR payments work for local commerce but still need a network connection.
These tools point to a wider Pi network ecosystem built around local commerce. They stop short of offline settlement. Whether they lift demand shows up in the market.
The Pi price up today is a significant move. After a dip earlier in the session, the token recovered around midday. Data from CoinMarketCap shows the following:

Only about 11% of the supply circulates. As migrations continue, more tokens can reach the market, which may add selling pressure over time.
Price is only one part of the year's story. Builders have spent 2026 laying tools around the chain, and three pieces surfaced in September.
Launchpad tracking: Pi's official BlockExplorer now has a "Launchpad Tokens" section on the Mainnet side. It lists no tokens yet. Testnet examples IRRA and SLICE stay on Testnet by design.
Coixa:A self-custody wallet and trading app for Pi and Stellar assets. It is live on Android and the web, with iOS in development. Fiat purchases run through Onramp Money, per its announcement on X.
Peniwallet: Founder SirMapy said on September 15 that the team reviewed Pi's new APIs for a possible integration. TON and Asset Chain are also under review.
Each item is early. The Launchpad section is empty. Coixa is an independent project, and its 96/100 audit score is its own claim. Peniwallet has no launch date, and Pi is not yet in its public documentation.
Recurring transactions and locked value will show whether these tools reach everyday users. That work rests on the network upgrades due next.
Pi network upgrades in 2026 have moved in steps, from protocol 25 to 26 to 27. Pi v28 is next. Node operators face a mandatory update ahead of the October 16 switch.
