Coinbase is bringing RLUSD to its retail app, Coinbase Exchange and Coinbase Prime, with dollar conversions available at a 1:1 rate.
The rollout supports deposits and withdrawals across XRPL, Ethereum and Base, while Ripple will provide liquidity on Base.
RLUSD has surpassed $2.4 billion in market capitalization since its December 2024 launch and is backed by dollar deposits, short-term U.S. Treasuries and other cash equivalents.
Ripple and Coinbase announced a partnership on October 28, 2026, bringing Ripple USD (RLUSD) to Coinbase’s trading platforms. The launch gives retail and institutional customers access to the stablecoin through Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange and its retail app. Users can convert U.S. dollars and other supported dollar-denominated stablecoins into RLUSD at a 1:1 rate.
The rollout supports deposits and withdrawals across the XRP Ledger (XRPL), Ethereum and Base. This allows users to move RLUSD across the three blockchain networks through supported transactions.
Additionally, Ripple will provide liquidity on Base to support RLUSD activity on the network. Coinbase Global Exchange customers will receive access later, including the ability to use RLUSD as collateral.
The partnership also extends RLUSD across spot trading, institutional prime brokerage, derivatives and decentralized finance (DeFi). According to the announcement, RLUSD has surpassed $2.4 billion in market capitalization since launching in December 2024.
Ripple and Coinbase Outline Institutional Plans
Jack McDonald, Ripple’s senior vice president of stablecoins, said institutions want compliant stablecoins available through platforms they already use. He said the partnership brings RLUSD to Coinbase’s institutional client base for execution, settlement and custody.
Meanwhile, Brett Tejpaul, co-CEO of Coinbase Institutional, said adding RLUSD expands payment options for institutional customers. He also described the move as part of Coinbase’s effort to offer trading and related services through one platform.
RLUSD is redeemable for U.S. dollars and backed by reserves that include dollar deposits, short-term U.S. Treasuries and other cash equivalents. Ripple describes the stablecoin as a regulated product designed for enterprise use.
