Ripple has committed $300,000 to emergency relief efforts following catastrophic flooding in Nepal and Tibet, directing the money to World Central Kitchen and Mercy Corps as humanitarian agencies respond to one of the region’s deadliest recent natural disasters.
The blockchain payments company announced the contribution on Aug. 28. The funding is intended to support emergency meals as well as clean-water and sanitation programs in communities cut off or badly damaged by the floods.
Flood disaster leaves hundreds deadThe scale of the disaster has risen sharply since early reports. By Aug. 29, at least 669 people had been confirmed dead in Nepal and another seven in Tibet, while nearly 3,000 remained missing, according to Reuters. Nepalese officials have estimated reconstruction costs could reach $5 billion.
The flooding followed the collapse of glacial material near the Nepal-China border, unleashing a destructive surge through settlements and transport corridors. Roads, bridges, power infrastructure and buildings were swept away, complicating rescue and supply operations.
World Central Kitchen has mobilized restaurant partners to provide meals in hard-hit areas, while Mercy Corps is working with local authorities and humanitarian organizations on water, sanitation and longer-term recovery needs.
Donation builds on Ripple’s humanitarian partnershipsThe $300,000 commitment is part of a broader record of disaster-response funding by Ripple. In 2023, the company also supported relief following the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, working with organizations including World Central Kitchen and Mercy Corps.
Those relationships have since expanded beyond conventional donations. Ripple said in 2025 that World Central Kitchen and Mercy Corps were among nonprofits exploring Ripple Payments and its RLUSD stablecoin for faster cross-border movement of humanitarian funds. Its latest Impact Report says Ripple Impact has contributed more than $250 million since 2018, including over $70 million during 2025.
That philanthropic activity comes as Ripple’s financial infrastructure business continues to grow. Its dollar-backed stablecoin recently exceeded a $2 billion market capitalization, while RLUSD growth has accompanied stronger institutional activity around the wider Ripple ecosystem.
Ripple has previously positioned stablecoin-based payments as particularly useful for aid organizations that need to move funds quickly across borders and into regions where conventional banking infrastructure may be disrupted. In 2024, it committed $1 million to the International Rescue Committee to explore blockchain-based cash relief and cross-border transfers.
