@worldcoinfnd has closed a $52.5 million token sale to push its proof-of-human identity network further into the AI era, with the round drawing a roster of prominent crypto investors and arriving in the same week that Grayscale filed for the first US ETF tied to the $WLD token.

Strategic Round Led by Pantera Capital

The World Foundation raised $52.5 million through a sale of locked $WLD tokens to strategic investors, with Pantera Capital leading. Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital, and Susquehanna Crypto also joined the round. The WLD tokens sold are subject to a 12-month lockup.

The nonprofit plans to use the capital to integrate its Orb-based proof-of-human identity technology across enterprise platforms and AI agents as concerns over bots and deepfakes grow. Planned integrations span Zoom, DocuSign, Okta, and Tinder. The organization says AI-generated content and autonomous agents are increasing demand for systems that can verify whether an online user is a real person.

World, formerly known as Worldcoin, is a blockchain protocol scaling a global, privacy-preserving identity network built on the concept of proof of personhood. It authenticates users as unique humans after they undergo an iris scan with a World Orb device, issuing each verified person a World ID on Worldchain.

More than 39 million people have joined the World Network, with over 18 million verified by an Orb and more than 475 million World ID proofs issued as the project shifts from building the network to scaling its utility. The project, however, continues to face regulatory scrutiny over its biometric data collection practices across multiple jurisdictions, from Brazil to South Korea.

Grayscale ETF Filing Signals Wall Street Interest

Grayscale filed a Worldcoin ETF application with the SEC on July 21, 2026, a move that would give ordinary American investors their first regulated path into Sam Altman's biometric crypto project without ever touching a digital wallet. The fund would trade on Nasdaq under the ticker GWLD.BitGo Bank would custody the fund's WLD while Bank of New York Mellon serves as transfer agent.

Eightco, one of Friday's investors in the new round, built the first corporate WLD treasury last year, and Grayscale's ETF filing this week suggests the thesis that human verification becomes core internet infrastructure is beginning to reach Wall Street. The filing adds Worldcoin to a growing list of digital assets being tested for ETF access after the approval of spot Bitcoin and Ether products.
