Samsung Stablecoin Plans: Accounts, Payment, Remittances Coming Soon
Samsung Electronics has confirmed a 2026 timeline for its long-teased stablecoin push, marking a major development in Samsung Stablecoin News.
In a written response to crypto outlet Sandmark on August 8, it will phase in stablecoins account opening, cross-border remittances, and in-store payments within Wallet, starting with select countries.
The move builds on plans first outlined at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 in London. It has not disclosed launch countries, supported stablecoins, or exact dates, saying rollout depends on regulatory review.
Samsung Stablecoin Plans Set for 2026 Rollout
Samsung confirmed it will begin rolling out stablecoins account opening, cross-border remittance, and payment functions inside Samsung Wallet within 2026, starting with a limited group of countries.
A company representative said the features will be introduced sequentially, with global expansion following only after regulations and market conditions in each country are reviewed.
This marks the first time an electronics company has attached a concrete timeline — "within this year" — to the vision it first described a few weeks earlier.

What Features Will Samsung Wallet Add?
The plan adds three functions the wallet doesn't currently offer: an account-opening flow, cross-border remittance, and in-store payments settled in stablecoins.
Together, these push Wallets from a self-custody crypto storage tool toward a full financial services product.

Samsung First Revealed Stablecoin Support at Galaxy Unpacked 2026
It previewed this direction at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 in London on July 22, where it said Wallet would move beyond cash and savings tools to support new forms of digital value, stablecoins included.
At the event, it also positioned itself as an early major mobile brand to build native support into smartphones, alongside a broader push to unify payments, rewards, and digital assets in one app.
How Wallet Already Supports Crypto Assets?
The Wallet is not new to crypto. Samsung Blockchain Wallet has shipped on Galaxy devices since 2019, secured by Samsung Knox hardware, and already supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tron on a non-custodial basis — meaning it never holds the keys or funds.
A Coinbase integration also lets US users view exchange balances and fund purchases through Samsung Pay. What's missing today is a custodial, account-based structure — the piece the new plan is meant to add.

Samsung Stablecoin Rollout Faces Regulatory and Partner Questions
It has not named which countries will launch first, which stablecoins will be supported, or which partners — if any — are involved. Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire reposted a Wallet mockup showing a USDC balance after Unpacked, but it has not confirmed Circle as a partner.
Opening accounts and handling cross-border transfers typically requires know-your-customer checks and licensing that Samsung's current non-custodial wallet doesn't need, suggesting a materially different — and more regulated — business than what exists today.
Samsung's Wider Push Into Stablecoin and Crypto Infrastructure
Samsung's ambitions sit inside a broader group-wide crypto push. The company's Securities, SDS, and Card agreed in May to acquire a combined 4% stake in Dunamu, operator of South Korean exchange Upbit, in a deal framed as a move into stablecoins and AI-payment infrastructure.
The Electronics was also named among more than 140 partners of the Open USD stablecoin project, though it has held no formal consultations on that initiative.
Samsung Stablecoin Plans Could Boost Crypto Payments
Because stablecoins typically offer lower fees and faster settlement than traditional bank transfers, the feature could appeal strongly in emerging markets where remittance costs run high and banking access is limited.
Given Samsung's global smartphone reach, the rollout could meaningfully accelerate everyday use — though it will compete with existing crypto payment platforms and still needs to build consumer trust and security.

Crypto Community Reacts to Announcement
Crypto payments arriving pre-installed for a billion users through a single built-in wallet — with no separate app download or exchange sign-up required. The firm characterized this as effectively pre-installing crypto access at massive scale, calling it a sign of what real mass adoption looks like.
The "1 billion users" figure also rounds up from Samsung's shipment and installed-base numbers rather than reflecting a confirmed rollout scope. It has not said which countries, or how many users, the initial 2026 launch will actually reach.

What Happens Next
The confirmed news is narrower than some social media framing suggests: Samsung plans a phased 2026 rollout of accounts, cross-border remittances, and payments in select countries — not a confirmed launch across all 61 countries where Wallet operates, and not a guaranteed reach of a billion devices.
The exact launch countries, supported stablecoins, partners, and dates remain undisclosed, with expansion pace tied directly to regulatory clearance and market readiness in each region.
