TLDR

  • A Revolut user sent about $5,000 in Bitcoin to wallets linked to Satoshi Nakamoto.
  • The sender tested several small transactions before completing the larger Bitcoin transfer.
  • The funds came from Revolut’s shared hot wallet, leaving the sender unidentified.
  • The receiving addresses belong to the Patoshi wallet cluster tied to early Bitcoin mining.
  • Satoshi-linked wallets still hold about 1.11 million BTC that have remained untouched.

A Bitcoin user sent about $5,000 worth of Bitcoin to wallets linked to Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, according to blockchain data tracked by Arkham. The transfer did not result from a price increase but came from a series of direct transactions that originated from a shared hot wallet associated with Revolut.

The transaction drew attention because the destination was the well-known Patoshi wallet cluster, a group of early Bitcoin mining addresses widely believed to belong to Satoshi Nakamoto. The wallets have remained inactive since the network’s early years, making any incoming transfer a topic of interest across the crypto community.

Satoshi Nakamoto Wallets Still Hold 1.11 Million BTC

Arkham data showed that the sender began with several small test transactions before making a final transfer of about 0.033 BTC, valued at roughly $2,170. Combined with the earlier transfers, the total amount sent reached about $5,000.

Because the Bitcoin came from Revolut’s shared hot wallet, the identity of the sender remains unknown. Shared exchange wallets combine funds from many customers, preventing blockchain observers from identifying the individual behind the transaction.

The Patoshi wallet network contains about 1.11 million BTC that have never moved since they were mined during Bitcoin’s early years. At current market prices, those holdings are worth more than $71 billion.

The private keys connected to these wallets have never been used since Satoshi Nakamoto disappeared from public view. As a result, Bitcoin sent to those addresses is generally considered unrecoverable unless the original private keys are ever used again.

Possible Reasons Behind the Transfer

Blockchain observers pointed to several possible explanations for the unusual transaction. One possibility is that the sender intended it as a symbolic donation to Bitcoin’s creator. Similar transfers have occurred before, including a reported $1.2 million transfer in 2024 and another worth about $150,000 earlier this year.

Another explanation is that the sender wanted to attract attention because transactions involving Satoshi’s wallets are closely monitored by blockchain tracking platforms. A third possibility is a simple mistake, such as copying the wrong Bitcoin address during a manual transfer.

Despite the unusual activity, the transaction did not affect Bitcoin’s network or market conditions. Traders continue to monitor Satoshi Nakamoto’s wallets because any movement from the long-dormant addresses would attract much greater market attention.
