Shiba Inu (SHIB), among the most prominent meme-based cryptocurrencies, is now officially available on Solana through the asset gateway Sunrise. This integration gives Solana market participants direct access to SHIB’s canonical form, the Ethereum-based ERC-20 token, within Solana’s broad decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem.
Sunrise and asset migration
Sunrise, powered by Wormhole Labs, is an asset gateway designed to seamlessly bring tokens from external blockchains—such as Ethereum—to Solana. By handling the creation and recognition of canonical tokens on Solana, provisioning liquidity, and integrating with wallets, decentralized exchanges (DEXs), and trading aggregators, Sunrise aims to address persistent issues around fragmented liquidity and token duplication.
Solana has emphasized the importance of SHIB’s community, describing it as one of the largest in the crypto sector. The blockchain highlighted how Shiba Inu has evolved from its origins as a dog-themed meme coin into a more substantial project with a rapidly growing ecosystem.
It is important to clarify that SHIB’s launch on Solana does not impact the original Shiba Inu token on Ethereum, nor does it mean the project’s layer-2 network, Shibarium, is migrating to Solana. Instead, Sunrise enables the canonical representation of SHIB to be traded within the Solana ecosystem, broadening access while maintaining the token’s Ethereum roots.
Supporting liquidity and avoiding fragmentation
Without a clear canonical version of assets on new blockchains, communities risk having multiple unofficial or unverified versions of the same token circulating, which often results in split liquidity and confusion among users. Sunrise, by collaborating directly with token issuers for approval, seeks to establish a single, recognized version to help unify trading activity and liquidity on Solana.
Since its November 2025 debut, Sunrise’s asset list has expanded. The gateway’s initial major listing was Monad’s MON token. In September, Dogecoin was made available on Solana using Sunrise and Wormhole NTT. Later that month, the meme token PEPE was also included, allowing users to trade it across Solana’s DeFi platforms. The recent addition of Shiba Inu continues this trend, providing a wider array of Ethereum-native tokens to the Solana community.
Market impact and growing meme sector
Despite the wider reach, SHIB’s price has shown minimal immediate movement following the Solana integration, continuing to trade at approximately $0.0000057. However, the move has expanded SHIB’s on-chain trading opportunities, potentially paving the way for increased future participation.
Solana points to Shiba Inu’s significant community presence and the importance of canonical asset integration, noting the expansion supports unified liquidity and secure trading for meme tokens on its DeFi network.
As meme tokens continue to gain traction in the market, swift movements in internet-driven trends can quickly translate into large sums of traded value—sometimes within days. Data from Fomo App highlights this phenomenon, such as a recent trade in “Niu Lai” that turned a $99 investment into about $370,000. Investors aiming to monitor this sector benefit not just from price tracking, but also by observing timing and token selection strategies. Fomo App combines token discovery with trading, social features, investor rankings, and trading alerts in one platform, supporting those active within the continuously evolving meme token sphere.
