Shiba Inu has witnessed a notable shift in on-chain activity as exchange reserves surged to their highest levels in recent weeks, raising concerns over increasing sell-side pressure. Data from Cryptoquant, an on-chain analytics provider, revealed that traders moved significant amounts of SHIB tokens to exchanges in the past 24 hours, coinciding with a reversal in price momentum.

Exchange reserves near critical level

As of September 27, the Shiba Inu exchange reserve reached approximately 87,793,800,000,000 SHIB. This marked a considerable jump from the previous day’s figures, indicating that more SHIB is now stored in exchange wallets rather than being withdrawn or held off-exchange.

Elevated exchange reserves often signal that holders are preparing to sell their assets, as moving tokens onto exchanges is typically a prelude to sell orders. With reserves approaching the 88 trillion SHIB mark, analysts see this as an indicator that any potential price rally could remain suspended in the short term.

Positive netflow confirms selling trend

Supporting the narrative of mounting sell pressure, Shiba Inu’s netflow turned positive over the last day. More than 75 billion SHIB flowed into exchanges within a 24-hour span, according to Cryptoquant’s monitoring. Positive netflow numbers suggest that market participants are sending more tokens to trading platforms than they are withdrawing, amplifying the bearish outlook for SHIB.

Mini dictionary: Exchange netflow refers to the difference between the amount of an asset deposited onto exchanges and the amount withdrawn over a specified period. Positive netflow implies higher inflows, while negative netflow indicates more withdrawals than deposits.

The increase in both exchange reserves and netflow comes as the broader crypto market cools following recent rallies. Shiba Inu, a meme-inspired cryptocurrency developed on the Ethereum blockchain, had seen its price attempt to rally in earlier sessions but has since retraced lower in response to these signals.

Price action stalls amid broader slowdown

Shiba Inu’s price reflected the heavier exchange activity, slipping back into negative territory. At the time of reporting, SHIB changed hands at about $0.000005883. This reversal stalled a short-lived price rally as market dynamics shifted in favor of sellers.

Cryptoquant analysts pointed to dwindling buying activity as a contributor to the bearish shift with many traders opting to lock in recent gains or cut potential losses. The movement of large volumes of SHIB onto exchanges often correlates with subdued price action or further declines, especially when accompanied by weak trading volumes on the buy side.

Over the last 24 hours, traders transferred substantial amounts of Shiba Inu tokens to exchanges, driving reserves to nearly 88 trillion SHIB and signaling growing selling pressure in the market.

Industry watchers now observe whether Shiba Inu can find support at current levels or if persistent supply on exchanges will push the price lower as market participants adjust their positions in response to the broader crypto slowdown.
