Summary
- Mazrael warned Shiba Inu holders that more than 366 Ethereum tokens share TREAT, making contract checks essential before any transaction.
- The official TREAT operates on Ethereum and Shibarium, while an older namesake has no stated connection to Shiba Inu’s ecosystem.
- Shibarium supports x402 payments, allowing developers to accept SHIB, TREAT, and wrapped BONE through the Permit2 route for digital services.
Shiba Inu community member Mazrael has warned holders to verify TREAT contract addresses because hundreds of Ethereum tokens share its ticker. According to Mazrael, Ethereum alone has more than 366 tokens using TREAT, making the name unreliable for identifying Shiba Inu’s token.
His warning addressed an X post from BAPA-Fortuna that highlighted two Ethereum tokens carrying the same name and ticker. Mazrael argued that presenting only two choices could leave holders unaware of the far larger number of matching listings.
The official Shiba Inu ecosystem TREAT token exists on Ethereum and Shibarium, with a contract address for each network. Users must therefore check the relevant network and contract address before treating a wallet entry or trading listing as official.
Another Ethereum token using the TREAT name reportedly dates to January 13, 2023. Despite the identical name, that older token has no stated connection to the Shiba Inu ecosystem.
A ticker can appear familiar in a search result while pointing to a different contract altogether. Moreover, a token’s age does not establish its connection to Shiba Inu, since an unrelated token may predate the official one.
Mazrael urged users to rely on contract addresses rather than token names when checking what they intend to buy or transfer. That distinction matters across both Ethereum and Shibarium, where the official token has a separate address on each chain.

Shibarium Payment Update Adds Another Reason to Check Token Addresses
Mazrael also shared an update on x402 payment infrastructure running on Shibarium, Shiba Inu’s layer-2 network. The standard allows clients to pay servers for digital services, including application access, paywalled content, and requests made by automated agents.
According to Mazrael, Shibarium has deployed Permit2, an x402 proxy, and SignatureValidator at addresses matching those used on other supported networks. He identified Ethereum, Base, and Polygon among the networks using those canonical addresses.
Mazrael stated that existing x402 clients can operate on Shibarium’s chain 109 without developers writing custom code. The update concerns how payment software interacts with Shibarium; it does not verify a token simply because its name appears.
Many x402 facilitators support USDC payments through EIP-3009, while the Permit2 route can handle other ERC-20 tokens. Mazrael noted that AI agents could use that route to pay with SHIB, TREAT, or wrapped BONE.
Consequently, developers may offer more payment choices across Shibarium applications, including services that accept Shiba Inu ecosystem tokens. Any request involving TREAT still requires the same address check that Mazrael emphasized in his warning.
For holders, the two updates meet at a practical point: a payment option or search result displaying TREAT identifies a ticker. The contract address and network determine which token sits behind it.
