Canada Gets Its First Regulated Stablecoin on Solana
@TetraDigitalGrp has officially launched $CADD, the first Canadian-dollar stablecoin issued by a regulated financial institution, now live on the @solana blockchain. The token is backed 1:1 by Canadian dollars and has received regulatory approval from the Alberta Treasury Board and Finance, giving it a compliance pedigree that most stablecoin projects lack at launch.
Tetra Digital Group, operating through subsidiaries Tetra Trust Company and CAD Digital Inc., expanded $CADD support to the Solana network after initially launching on Base, Ethereum, and Tempo. The token is pegged 1:1 to Canadian dollars held in segregated trust reserves and independently audited.
Stablecoins are becoming more widely accepted for payments and settlement, but adoption has been dominated by US-denominated assets, leaving Canadian businesses and institutions without a competitive domestic option to move Canadian dollars on blockchain-based rails. $CADD is designed to close that gap.
Why Solana, and What CADD Enables
Tetra Digital Group CEO Didier Lavallée describes Solana as the next natural expansion for $CADD, noting the network is known for its extreme speed and is frequently used by global payment processors.Solana's transaction throughput and low fees make it particularly well-suited for payments use cases, which is exactly what $CADD is targeting.
Because it is denominated in Canadian dollars and governed under Canadian law, $CADD enables institutional use cases such as 24/7 cross-border settlement, real-time corporate treasury transfers, programmable payments for marketplace payouts, and direct settlement between fintech partners without correspondent banking delays.
The launch arrives as global stablecoin transaction volume surpassed $27 trillion in 2025, exceeding Visa's annual payment throughput, yet the Canadian dollar has lacked a production-scale on-chain payment rail until now.
The token is backed by a consortium that includes Tetra Digital Group, Urbana Corporation, Wealthsimple, Purpose Unlimited, Shakepay, ATB Financial, National Bank of Canada, and Shopify.Tetra raised $10 million in September 2025 to build out the project.
