Solana is trading near $73 today, sitting well below its all-time high. The token is caught between two opposite forces right now.

On one side, a large wallet just bought $17.4 million worth of SOL. On the other, Pump.fun keeps dumping tokens on the market.

This mix of buying and selling is worth watching closely if you hold or trade Solana.

What is the current Solana price?

As of August 7, 2026, the altcoin trades around $72.70 to $74.65 depending on the exchange. The token is down between 1.4% and 2.8% over the past week.

Solana's market cap sits near $42 billion to $43 billion. That keeps it ranked as the seventh-largest cryptocurrency by market value.

Why did a whale buy $17.4 million in SOL?

A tracked wallet, flagged by crypto watcher Ted (@TedPillows), pulled $17.41 million worth of $SOL from Kraken this week. The transfers came in two batches.

One batch moved 70,000 SOL worth about $5.16 million an hour before the post. Another batch, from a week earlier, moved 166,000 SOL worth roughly $12.25 million.

Large withdrawals from exchange wallets often signal accumulation. When coins leave an exchange, it usually means the buyer plans to hold rather than sell soon.

This kind of on-chain move gets attention because it suggests some big holders still see value in $SOL at current prices.whale pulled $17.41 million worth of SOL from Kraken

Why is Pump.fun still selling Solana?

At the same time, the meme coin platform Pump.fun keeps adding sell pressure. Crypto Patel reported another 84,789 SOL sold, worth about $6.25 million.

That brings Pump.fun's total sales so far to 4.82 million SOL, worth around $807 million. The average sale price across those trades comes out to $167.40 per SOL.

That average price is more than double where Solana trades today. It shows Pump.fun has been selling steadily as prices dropped, not just during a single spike.

The transaction data shows repeated transfers from a Pump.fun fee account into Kraken deposit wallets over the past two weeks. This pattern has made Pump.fun one of the most consistent sources of SOL sell pressure in the market.Pump.fun keeps adding sell pressure

How does Rarible's Solana launch affect the price?

Rarible launched its NFT marketplace on Solana this week, with Claynosaurz as the first featured collection. The company had tested the waters earlier through its Gacha Station product.

Rarible plans to add more collections and features over time. It has not given any targets for trading volume on the new marketplace.

NFT platform launches like this tend to support Solana's ecosystem story more than its short-term price. They add another reason for developers and collectors to stay on the network, but they rarely move the price on their own.

Solana price prediction: what to watch next

Solana's near-term direction depends on which force wins out: whale accumulation or Pump.fun's steady selling.

Support sits in the $70 to $71 range based on recent trading. A break below that zone could open the door to further downside.

Resistance sits closer to $75 to $78, near recent highs. SOL would need renewed buying pressure to clear that level with any conviction.

Institutional activity offers a longer-term counterweight to the selling pressure. Morgan Stanley launched SOL and ETH exchange-traded products with staking rewards in late July 2026, and Grayscale has floated plans for cash payouts from staking on its products too.

These moves suggest institutions are building exposure to Solana even as retail-driven platforms like Pump.fun add supply to the market. How that balance plays out will likely shape SOL's price over the coming weeks.

No one can say for certain where Solana goes next. The token faces a tug of war between accumulation from large holders and consistent sell pressure from meme coin activity.
