Ethereum Layer 2 network Soneium is heading straight into show business. The chain announced on October 26, 2026, that it plans to launch a native asset called $SONEIUM. The goal? Turn character rights, indie films, and concert tours into tradeable digital assets. It wants to build an onchain economy where creators, studios, and everyday fans back fresh productions and split commercial royalties.

The pitch covers a wide slice of media. Soneium reports that over 250 apps are already plugged into its network across anime, gaming, music, and film. Yet, the core financial blueprint of the token remains behind closed doors. No public launch date. No distribution numbers. No tokenomics breakdown.

Turning Fan Favorites Into Tradeable Assets

The heart of Soneium's strategy comes down to a simple premise: let people invest directly in the creative stories they love.

The project is introducing dedicated IP Tokens to make this happen. Some will function as rare collectibles meant to rally die-hard fandoms. Others will run as fungible tokens, basically operating as native currencies for specific fictional worlds. If an animation studio needs money to produce an episode, it can sell these tokens to supporters. Down the line, smart contracts can automatically slice up retail sales or streaming revenue, sending proceeds back to eligible wallets.

Real Projects Line Up From Tokyo to Seoul

Real entertainment brands are already signing on to test the plumbing. Soneium's first flagship run focuses on Moriusa, a rabbit mascot owned by Tokyo's Super State Holdings. That push aims to fund animated shorts and merchandise lines through community backing.

Another tie-up with DayOneDream seeks to tokenize touring royalties from established K-pop acts. Beyond single creators, Soneium is pitching broader financial setups: an IP Vault to bundle music catalog rights, along with an IP Bond tied to entertainment corporate debt.

The Big Question Mark Around $SONEIUM

Soneium frames its upcoming token as the financial engine connecting developers, artists, and fans. But right now, observers only have half the puzzle.

We still do not know what holding the token actually accomplishes. Will users pay network gas fees with it? Does it grant governance rights over chain upgrades, or merely provide perks inside consumer apps? Soneium has stayed quiet on all counts. Fundamental figures like maximum supply caps, insider vesting schedules, and public sale allocations remain unrevealed. That leaves creators and traders guessing about market demand, liquid float, and initial selling pressure whenever the token generation event finally arrives.

Teaching Blockchains to Track AI and Licensing

Generative artificial intelligence is churning out remixed artwork, synthetic soundtracks, and cloned voices at staggering speed. That explosion creates an immediate headache for human artists trying to protect their work and get paid.

Soneium wants to handle this through an onchain registry designed to map original media, track derivative spin-offs, and automate licensing checks. As part of this push, the network is adopting ERC-8432. It is a proposed Ethereum standard built so autonomous AI agents and web apps can instantly read licensing terms, verify who holds the rights, and clear payments on the fly.

Bridging Web3 Infrastructure to Mainstream Consumers

To bring these features to everyday fans, user experience must become frictionless. Soneium is rolling out two primary gateways to handle traffic.

The Soneium Portal will serve as the discovery hub where fans explore token drops, primary sales, and royalty distributions. Alongside it, the Startale App acts as an entry point for managing user wallets and interacting with applications. These tools aim to hide technical blockchain hurdles behind clean, consumer-friendly software.

Code alone cannot rewrite commercial reality. If courts refuse to honor digital licenses, or if mainstream entertainment conglomerates decline to register copyrights onchain, the plumbing will sit empty. Soneium is attempting to push crypto far beyond speculative meme coins into tangible intellectual property. It sounds bold. Still, buying a token does not hand you automatic copyright ownership, nor does it guarantee a payout if an anime series flops. The network's staying power will ultimately hinge on two things: whether its creative partners produce hits that real people watch, and whether those unrevealed tokenomics offer a genuine reason to stick around.
