Bitcoin continued to draw divergent views from market experts as Strategy announced new acquisitions, while economist Peter Schiff reiterated his expectation for further declines in the cryptocurrency’s price.

Schiff flags Bitcoin’s resilience amid gold price retreat

Economist and gold advocate Peter Schiff acknowledged that Bitcoin had performed better than he previously anticipated, especially when compared to the recent volatility in gold prices. In a discussion shared by Scott Melker, Schiff said Bitcoin held its earlier gains, while gold surrendered much of its rally following renewed signals from the Federal Reserve concerning interest rates and inflation.

Gold relinquished nearly its entire rally as the Federal Reserve intensified its stance on raising interest rates and controlling inflation. In contrast, Bitcoin maintained its gains over the same period, showing greater price stability as market conditions shifted.

Schiff observed that Bitcoin had rebounded from around $60,000 to near $85,000, avoiding a slide back to previous lows. Gold, however, climbed to approximately $5,500 before falling back toward $4,000 and only briefly recovering to $4,600–$4,700.

Despite this resilience, Schiff maintained a cautious outlook. He emphasized that although BTC had outperformed gold in the short term, he still expected Bitcoin to reach new lows. He noted that he had originally anticipated a downward move to occur sooner, underscoring the unpredictability of near-term trends.

The comparative price action between Bitcoin and gold reflects a broader difference in the way each asset responds to evolving interest-rate expectations, inflation risks, and shifts in investor sentiment.

Strategy adds to BTC reserves, total reaches 848,250

While Schiff reiterated bearish expectations, Strategy, under the leadership of executive chairman Michael Saylor, expanded its Bitcoin holdings. The firm acquired an additional 250 BTC for roughly $21.5 million, bringing its total reserves to 848,250 BTC as of October 11, 2026.

This position amounts to about 4% of Bitcoin’s maximum supply of 21 million coins, establishing Strategy as one of the largest corporate holders. The company’s average purchase price stands near $75,444 per BTC. With BTC now trading close to $86,000, the holdings are above aggregate cost when not accounting for financing and operational expenses. However, realizable gains depend on future market prices.

Strategy also repurchased about $192 million in STRC preferred shares as part of its broader approach to capital management. The company has historically combined Bitcoin purchases with financing instruments such as equity offerings, allowing different avenues for investors to gain exposure through common MSTR shares or preferred securities like STRC. Each option comes with distinct risk and payment profiles, and all remain linked to the volatility of Bitcoin’s price.

Strategy’s continued purchases demonstrate its focus on Bitcoin as a primary reserve asset, though these acquisitions do not guarantee a specific direction for the broader market, given Bitcoin’s sensitivity to macroeconomic developments.

The contrasting stances of Schiff and Saylor underscore ongoing uncertainty in the market’s short-term direction, with corporate accumulation confronting continued skepticism among some market commentators.

Technical analysis signals mixed momentum for BTC

On the technical front, Bitcoin’s trend remains constructive according to several long-term moving averages. The cryptocurrency is trading above its 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day exponential moving averages, set at approximately $80,215, $76,471, and $75,572, respectively, as well as its 200-day simple moving average near $72,130.

Despite this, momentum indicators such as the Relative Strength Index (RSI) showed a neutral stance, reaching a value of 53, which points to neither overbought nor oversold conditions. The Commodity Channel Index (CCI) and the Momentum indicator provided buy signals, while the Average Directional Index (ADX) and MACD reflected weakening trends, highlighting the complexity of current market dynamics.

Shorter-term moving averages offered less decisive direction, with both 10-day and 20-day simple moving averages registering sell signals. This divergence suggests that while long-term structure remains positive, recent price action has yet to establish a clear upward momentum across all time frames.

Resistance and support levels draw trader attention

Bitcoin’s next challenge lies at the resistance band of $84,700 to $86,700. Camarilla and Fibonacci pivot levels indicate significant resistance near $84,705, $85,847, $86,710, and $86,989. Convincing price action above these points could promote a deeper recovery, with further technical resistance at $88,986 and $94,410.

On the downside, traders are closely monitoring support in the $81,800 to $82,300 range, which aligns with critical pivot levels and shorter-term trend indicators. A break below this region could expose Bitcoin to additional support between $76,500 and $79,000. The central pivot based on Classic calculations is $81,950, with Woodie’s pivot near $82,349.

As a snapshot, BTC recently traded at $83,347 on Bitstamp, up $1,602 or 1.96%, reflecting modest gains for the session, though this value varies across market sources and compared with prices referenced in commentary.

Given the influence of technical signals and investor moves, market participants increasingly emphasize the importance of closely tracking trading activity and price levels. In the meme token market, an internet trend can transform into millions of dollars of interest within days. According to data shared by Fomo App, a trade involving “Niu Lai”—which turned an initial $99 investment into approximately $370,000, stands out as a striking example of this activity. In this market, tracking not only prices but also the timing and token choices of investors is crucial. Fomo App brings token discovery and trading together on a single platform, featuring social feeds, investor rankings, and trade notifications. Macroeconomic signals shape outlook for Bitcoin and gold

Federal Reserve policy remains a leading influence on both Bitcoin and gold. Rising expectations for higher rates typically tighten financial conditions, increasing the appeal of interest-bearing assets and putting pressure on non-yielding investments such as cryptocurrencies and precious metals.

Bitcoin’s recent resilience, observed by Schiff, coincides with an uncertain macroeconomic backdrop characterized by U.S. debt discussions, housing-sector risk, scrutiny of economic data, and rapid advances in artificial intelligence. These broader themes can drive shifts in investor positioning, though their direct effects on BTC and gold are not always predictable.

Strategy’s ongoing Bitcoin purchases demonstrate continued corporate interest in utilizing BTC as a treasury asset, even as retail and institutional demand across the market may respond at different rates. The company’s actions highlight one approach to capital allocation in an unpredictable market landscape.

With Bitcoin maintaining a position above long-term moving averages but facing resistance and mixed technical momentum, the market remains attentive to how macroeconomic trends, investor flows, and technical signals will converge in shaping future price action.
