- A daily close below $0.8862 would weaken its immediate recovery setup.
- Open interest fell 2.01% to $275.2 million as outstanding leverage contracted.
- An early-November token unlock adds another factor for traders to monitor.
Sui (SUI) is approaching a decisive technical test after a prolonged correction, with weakening momentum, contracting derivatives exposure and an approaching token unlock complicating the prospect of a recovery.
At the time of writing SUI trade at approximately $0.9107 on Coinbase, down 0.92% during the session. The cryptocurrency had retreated roughly 30% from its late-September high near $1.29, leaving buyers struggling to defend the final major Fibonacci support above the $0.77 region.
The selloff has also pushed SUI beneath its major exponential moving averages. Meanwhile, open interest has fallen to $275.2 million, indicating that outstanding derivatives positioning is shrinking alongside the price.
The immediate test is whether buyers can defend the $0.8862 support level before the market attempts another recovery.
SUI’s Technical Structure Remains Under Pressure
The daily chart shows a series of lower highs following September’s rally.

SUI approaches critical support as its descending channel and weakening momentum signal persistent selling pressure.
Chart by Alexander Zdravkov, TradingView.
Attempts to rebound have stalled beneath descending resistance, while the loss of the 50% Fibonacci retracement has weakened the short-term structure.
SUI also trades below its 50-day, 100-day and 200-day exponential moving averages. The nearest recovery hurdle is the 100-day EMA, followed by a tighter resistance cluster where the Fibonacci midpoint overlaps with the other two moving averages.
Momentum supports the bearish assessment. The 14-day Relative Strength Index stands at 37.67, below its 44.83 moving average, with no convincing bullish divergence visible in the supplied chart.
A developing falling wedge is worth monitoring, although the lower boundary still lacks convincing confirmation. The setup would become more credible if SUI established a clear converging support line and subsequently broke above descending resistance.
For now, the chart’s actionable levels are more important than the unfinished formation.

SUI’s correction has been sharper than the broader market’s recent decline.
During the completed October 19–25 trading week, SUI lost approximately 7.7%, compared with a 2.4% decline in Bitcoin and a 3.3% drop in Ethereum. That divergence points to additional weakness in SUI rather than a selloff explained entirely by the wider cryptocurrency market.
Token supply is another factor approaching the market.
According to CoinGecko’s SUI tokenomics tracker, approximately 13.15 million SUI are scheduled for release on November 1, with a value of roughly $12 million at prevailing prices. The reported allocation includes 7.08 million tokens for early contributors, 4 million for the community reserve and 2.07 million for the Mysten Labs treasury.
The scheduled release represents approximately 0.13% of SUI’s 10 billion maximum token supply. Although modest relative to total supply, its market impact will depend on how much becomes available for sale and whether existing demand can absorb it.
Unlock trackers use different methodologies and report different dates and quantities. , for example, separates releases by allocation and date, while reports a different aggregated November event. The CoinGecko estimate should therefore be treated as a tracker-specific projection, not a guaranteed single-day increase in exchange supply.
The timing nevertheless matters. SUI enters the release period after several weeks of declining prices, leaving its ability to absorb additional transferable tokens an important test of demand.
Open Interest Falls as Leveraged Exposure Contracts
SUI’s derivatives market is showing signs of deleveraging alongside the price correction. Outstanding perpetual futures positions declined over the preceding 24 hours, indicating that traders are reducing their aggregate exposure rather than expanding it.
The exchange-level distribution also reveals a concentrated market, with Binance and Bybit accounting for nearly three-quarters of reported open interest.

The simultaneous decline in price and open interest points to a contraction in outstanding leveraged exposure. This may ease positioning pressure, but without funding-rate and spot-volume data, it does not establish that buyers are accumulating SUI.
For a sustained recovery, the more convincing signal would be renewed buying activity accompanied by a break in the sequence of lower highs. Until then, declining open interest reflects a smaller derivatives market, not necessarily a stronger underlying one.
What a Break Below $0.8862 Would Mean
SUI’s immediate recovery prospects depend on whether buyers can defend $0.8862, the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement identified on the daily chart.
A rebound through the nearest moving average would provide an initial sign of stabilization. Reclaiming the higher resistance cluster would carry greater significance because it would challenge several technical barriers simultaneously.
However, a daily close below $0.8862, followed by a failed retest, would undermine the immediate recovery setup and expose the next Fibonacci reference at $0.7754.
With SUI underperforming major cryptocurrencies, derivatives exposure contracting and scheduled supply releases approaching, buyers have yet to demonstrate a convincing shift in momentum.
