T. Rowe Price, the 89-year-old investment giant that manages approximately $1.9 trillion in assets for pension funds and retirement savers, has received SEC approval for its first ever crypto fund. The move marks a significant step for one of Wall Street's most established names into the digital asset space.
What the Fund Will Hold
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on June 12, 2026 approved the T. Rowe Price Active Crypto ETF for listing on NYSE Arca. The sponsor's eligible assets list includes Bitcoin, Ether, SOL, $XRP, $ADA, $AVAX, Litecoin, DOT, Dogecoin, HBAR, Bitcoin Cash, $LINK, XLM, Shiba Inu, and SUI. The ETF normally expects to hold between five and 15 of those assets, though holdings may fall above or below that range.
The actively managed strategy will give portfolio managers discretion to adjust holdings within the 5-to-15 asset range. The ETF does not replicate a crypto index but uses one as a benchmark.SEC filings also indicate that stablecoins such as USDC may be used as tokenized cash for fees and adjustments.
A Landmark for Traditional Finance
The fund, trading under the ticker TKNZ, is the first actively managed multi-coin crypto ETF launched by a major traditional financial institution.NYSE Arca filed the proposed rule change on November 6, 2025, and the SEC published it for comment later that month. While the June 12, 2026 regulatory nod does not mean immediate trading, it represents the most significant breakthrough yet for the firm's first crypto product.
T. Rowe Price must still complete listing procedures and compliance requirements before the ETF can launch, but the decision signals growing regulatory openness toward diversified crypto investment vehicles.
