XRP price is trading near $1.00 as the broader crypto market continues to consolidate. The token has been hovering around this level for weeks, with bulls and bears fighting for control.
But while the short-term price action is the immediate focus, a different debate is playing out in the XRP community: how high can XRP realistically go? One relatively unknown account on X created a heated discussion with a blunt assessment:
“XRP Can’t Reach $1k. It is physically impossible for XRP to reach $1,000. Have you guys done any research, or do you just blindly buy coins hoping for a 10x return?”
The tweet continued: “If it were to actually reach $1,000 (which is impossible), its market capitalization would reach $100 trillion, which is equivalent to 10 times the global GDP. $10 is already the limit, and even then it takes a long time, meaning banks can only use it for almost all transactions.”
The author concluded: “I don’t know about you guys, but I’m waiting for $5 or $10 and then I’ll sell. $1,000 is really out of the question. You guys need to do some research.”
The Math Behind the Claim
The criticism is built on a simple calculation: Price × Circulating Supply = Market Cap.
XRP’s circulating supply is roughly 62.67 billion coins (out of a 99.98 billion total, with a 100 billion max). If XRP hit $1,000 per coin, the market cap would be approximately $62.7 trillion. Using the full 100 billion max supply, that number jumps to $100 trillion.
That is an enormous number. For context:
- Global GDP (all goods and services produced on Earth in a year) is roughly $100–110 trillion. XRP alone would be worth as much as the entire world’s annual economic output.
- Total global money supply (M2) (every dollar, euro, yen, etc., in checking accounts, savings, and cash worldwide) is estimated around $130–140 trillion. XRP would need to absorb roughly half of all the money that exists on the planet.
- Bitcoin, the largest crypto by market cap, currently sits around $1.2–1.3 trillion. XRP at $1,000 would need to be roughly 50x bigger than Bitcoin currently is, and become the single largest asset class in human history; bigger than gold (roughly $18–20 trillion) and bigger than the entire US stock market (roughly $50–55 trillion).
- Gold’s entire above-ground supply (all the gold ever mined, held by every central bank, jeweler, and investor combined) is valued around $18–20 trillion. XRP at $1,000 would be worth roughly 3–5x all the gold that has ever existed.

A More Grounded Perspective
This does not mean XRP is a bad investment or that meaningful gains are impossible. It means the specific number $1,000 is the issue, not upward price movement itself.
A few useful reframes:
- Circulating supply could theoretically be reduced (through burns), which would raise the price ceiling. But XRP has no significant burn mechanism currently in place.
- A more grounded framing: what would XRP’s market cap need to be to hit more achievable numbers like $5, $10, or $50? At $5, XRP’s market cap would be roughly $313 billion; a 5x from current levels, which is ambitious but not impossible in a strong bull cycle. At $10, the market cap would be $626 billion; roughly half of Bitcoin’s current market cap. At $50, it would be $3.13 trillion; larger than Bitcoin but still within the realm of possibility in a multi-cycle bull run.
- This same math logic applies to any low-price, high-supply coin. Shiba Inu’s “$1 SHIB” dream has the identical problem, just with even more extreme numbers.
Overall, the $1,000 XRP price dream is a mathematical fantasy. It would require XRP to absorb roughly half of all the money that exists on the planet, making it larger than gold, the US stock market, and Bitcoin combined.
That does not mean XRP cannot see significant gains. A move to $5–$10 is ambitious but realistic in a strong bull cycle. A move to $50 would require a truly extraordinary level of global adoption. But $1,000 is out of the question.
As the tweet author put it: “I’m waiting for $5 or $10 and then I’ll sell.”
