CME Group is set to add futures on Uniswap's native token, $UNI, on October 19, a move that would give institutional traders a regulated route to the leading decentralised exchange protocol. The launch is still subject to regulatory review, according to the exchange.

What CME has announced

CME Group said on September 22 that it will launch Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Uniswap (UNI) futures on October 19, pending regulatory review. Traders will be able to choose between larger and Micro-sized contracts, with Uniswap futures covering 10,000 UNI and Micro Uniswap futures covering 1,000 UNI.

Coinpedia reports that it would reportedly be the first time CME Group adds futures for a dedicated DeFi token. That framing is not part of CME's own announcement, and it depends on how a DeFi token is defined, so it should be treated with caution.

If the review clears on schedule, Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap will become CME's tenth and eleventh single-asset crypto futures products, joining Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, Solana, Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche and Sui.

Why institutional access matters

Futures on a regulated exchange let funds and trading firms gain price exposure or hedge risk without holding the token directly. Giovanni Vicioso of CME said the new contracts let clients manage price risk and gain exposure to key crypto networks within a 24/7, regulated marketplace.

CME has pointed to demand as the driver. The exchange said its crypto futures and options averaged 279,800 contracts in daily volume in the first half of 2026, representing $8.3 billion in notional value.

Price action has been volatile around the news. Coinpedia reports UNI climbed from $3.15 to a September peak of $10.90, then retraced toward the $7.00 support area by early October. The same outlet notes that a listing alone won't guarantee a rally.

The main risk is timing. CME has given no further timetable for the regulatory review, so October 19 remains a target date rather than an unconditional launch date. Readers should check CME's official channels for confirmation before the contracts begin trading.
