Ethereum's staking entry queue and exit queue are now close in size. Around 1,292,455 $ETH is waiting to be staked on @Ethereum mainnet, worth roughly $3.16 billion at the time of writing. At the same time, some 1,030,696 $ETH is waiting to be unstaked.
The two figures are the closest they have been since December 2025, which marks a notable shift from the lopsided queues seen for much of this year.
How the queues have moved
Ethereum limits how quickly validators can enter or leave the network. ValidatorQueue data shows a churn limit of 256 ETH per epoch on both sides, which leaves large inflows or withdrawals waiting when demand exceeds processing capacity. Activations and exits are processed at a fixed rate per epoch, roughly every 6.4 minutes, which prevents sudden shocks to the network's security model.
For much of the year, entry demand dominated. According to a July report from BlockchainReporter, the exit queue had dropped to zero from over 2.6 million ETH in September 2025, while an entry queue of about 2.48 million ETH faced an estimated 43-day wait. At that point, unstaking was effectively instant.
That changed at the start of October. On September 30, MetaMask disclosed a security incident affecting part of its staking infrastructure and began precautionary validator exits. MetaMask moved to exit nearly 17,000 validators holding approximately 523,000 ETH, a significant share of which was tied to Lido's operations. The exit queue hit 786,275 ETH on October 5, with a wait of 13 days and 16 hours, the longest of 2026. The entry queue stood at 1.46 million ETH at the time, with a 25-day wait.
What a narrower gap means
A large exit queue does not automatically mean ETH is being sold. The exit queue is a protocol-controlled delay, and validators completing an exit still pass through a separate withdrawal process before funds become available. Lido has said it expects most of the ETH tied to the MetaMask exits to be restaked. Some of the unstaking activity may therefore be re-entering the staking queue rather than leaving the network.
The current figures show roughly 260,000 more $ETH waiting to enter than to exit. That is a far smaller margin than the multi-million ETH imbalance in the entry queue earlier this year. Entry demand is still ahead of exits, but by a much thinner margin than in recent months.
Queue sizes shift as new requests arrive and existing ones are processed, so the balance between the two can change quickly. Live data is available from trackers such as ValidatorQueue and beaconcha.in.
