Ethereum could experience a significant price surge before the end of 2026, projects Tom Lee, co-founder of Fundstrat and Chairman of BitMine Immersion Technologies. Lee expects ETH to trade above $5,000, despite the cryptocurrency’s recent dip toward $2,300.

Market Outlook and Price Projections

Lee’s prediction suggests a 112% rise from Ethereum’s level of $2,362.73 as of October 15. If Bitcoin were to reach $100,000, Lee believes ETH could potentially accelerate further to the $7,500 mark. These forecasts, outlined during the TOKEN2049 conference in Singapore, are rooted in the increasing adoption of blockchain by established financial institutions.

He points to the expansion of tokenized financial assets and institutional blockchain applications as key drivers that could shape Ethereum’s next rally. Lee highlighted that a substantial increase in these sectors may push ETH prices significantly higher.

Lee drew attention to Ethereum’s potential by referencing the growing role of traditional finance in blockchain, noting that “the adoption of blockchain infrastructure by financial institutions creates long-term value for ETH.”

Despite these projections, Ethereum faces headwinds. On October 15, its price was trading around $2,363, registering a 5.6% decline from the previous day and a 41% slide year-on-year. ETH would require sustained momentum, passing through critical resistance levels to surpass the $5,000 threshold.

BitMine’s Accumulation Strategy and Its Impact

BitMine Immersion Technologies, a publicly traded blockchain company chaired by Lee, has established itself as one of the largest corporate holders of Ethereum. As of October 12, BitMine’s treasury contained about 6.03 million ETH, equating to nearly 4.9% of Ethereum’s circulating supply. Within the prior week, the company had acquired an additional 12,532 ETH.

The company’s strategy includes a self-imposed upper limit: BitMine intends to halt purchases once its total holdings reach 5% of all circulating ETH. Preparations for this pause are reportedly underway, which prompts uncertainty regarding Ethereum’s future performance should sustained corporate buying from BitMine subside.

A substantial portion of BitMine’s holdings—estimated at approximately 5.07 million ETH, or 84% of its portfolio—was staked as of October 12, emphasizing the company’s focus on staking as a key revenue stream.

Mini dictionary: BitMine Immersion Technologies is a publicly listed blockchain mining and asset-management firm that has emerged as one of the top institutional holders of Ethereum, leveraging large-scale staking to generate income beyond traditional crypto mining activities.

However, staking returns alone may not be sufficient to trigger an ETH price rally, particularly if external investor demand remains subdued. This self-imposed ceiling on accumulation presents a test for Lee’s bullish forecast as BitMine nears its buying limit.

Ethereum ETF Outflows and Market Risks

Ethereum’s near-term environment remains under significant pressure, casting doubt on rapid upside scenarios. On October 12, US spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds recorded $85.4 million in net outflows, according to figures referenced in a recent ETF outflow report.

Such withdrawals highlight that institutional adoption is not always accompanied by sustained demand. Many investors trimmed holdings amid persistent macroeconomic anxiety, even as Ethereum’s foundational financial technology continues expanding.

Lee has also issued recent warnings on possible short-term selling if South Korean investors liquidate assets in response to volatility in local stock markets. This cautious stance contrasts with his optimistic long-term view, underlining the distinction between immediate risks and multi-year forecasts.

Despite the bullish long-term projection, Lee acknowledged that selling from Korean equities could fuel short-term downward pressure in the cryptocurrency sector.
