Ripple secured a significant institutional partnership on August 18. Jeonbuk Bank became the first regional bank in Korea to deploy Ripple Payments for cross-border remittances. However, this positive move has frustrated many in the community, including Crypto Bitlord (@crypto_bitlord7).
He acknowledged the news, calling it “more good news for $XRP.” Then he noted that the asset had dropped below $1 despite the announcement, adding, “I’m slowly starting to hate this coin.”
Good News for XRP
Jeonbuk Bank serves import-export companies, IT startups, and online content creators. Those customers now access cross-border settlement that completes in seconds to minutes. The deal replaces multi-day SWIFT transfers with near real-time, 24/7 settlement for business customers.
It is Ripple’s third Korean partnership this year, following Kyobo Life Insurance and Kbank. Ripple now holds institutional partnerships across insurance, digital banking, and regional banking in Korea. XRP functions as the bridge asset in these transactions.
Frustration From Long-Term Holders
Reactions among XRP holders were candid. One commenter said he genuinely hates the coin but is too deep in his holdings to do anything other than hold and hope.
Crypto Bitlord replied to that sentiment. He said XRP “had all the right things going for it on paper” and described it as “a dream coin,” before noting that too many holders had already sold their positions.
BankXRP, another well-known figure in the community, urged patience, acknowledging the difficulty of the current period but encouraging holders to stay the course. Crypto Bitlord pushed back on that too. He questioned how long patience is supposed to last, asking if this situation is “the same thing over and over.”
Skepticism and Outside Perspectives
One commenter argued that XRP’s market cap is overvalued relative to a competing asset. Another highlighted a notable pattern where bad news causes major declines. However, positive news does not produce a similar positive effect.
The community recently fired back at an interview where Ripple President Monica Long highlighted the company’s 75+ global licenses and other partnerships. A central sticking point was that these have not contributed to XRP’s price growth.
The Disconnect Remains
Crypto Bitlord captured the mood accurately. XRP sits at $0.99, down 0.96%, on a day when Ripple announced a landmark regional banking partnership. The fundamentals are building, but the price is yet to reflect that. That is the tension XRP holders are sitting with right now.
